I think its helpful to think of it like this - all peoples have their myths, their legends, their history, and beliefs. Judaism is the collection of these all these things held by the Jewish people; the fundamental aspect of a nation's culture, much like Germanic paganism or Igbo religion is to Germans and Igbo respectively. I think too many people see religion in the Christian or Muslim sense, which makes it difficult to understand such a concept

My grandmother was Jewish and I just recently started expressing my Jewish soul, these words are well said as I do not celebrate jewish culture, I am atheist and know little about judaism. But am I just as much of a jew as ones raised that way

Perhaps the "wolf in sheep's clothing" analogy might make more sense here. I'm not being critical. There are those in my faith who consider their faith to be "truth" and don't like the word religion. Who understands this stuff anyway?

Judaism is religion, because of the things you do to pertain your faith. Following certain rules and doing certain things. That is religion to me. Christianity is not a religion because its based on God not ourselves. We come to God as Children of God, not as servants providing a service, as Judaism is.

Judaism is a religion its seperate from the bible and follows oral teaching of the Zohar and Talmud. Being a Jew is just describing one tribe out of the 12 tribes.
