CLOSE HTML TAGS AUTOMATICALLY in Notepad++: Html Tutorials

This video tip shows you how to close HTML tags in Notepad++ automatically. Notepad++ can close html tags automatically. The auto-close tag feature in Notepad++ is set as shown below:

1. Go to Settings.
2. Go to Preferences.
3. Click on Auto-Completion
4. Check the box 'HTML/XML Close Tag'

I wish to add a note or two to this method of closing HTML tags in Notepad++
To make this work, even in documents saved as text files, use the said setting per the video: "Language > H > HTML".
This will temporarily convert the text file into a HTML file for the duration of editing while the file remains open in Notepad++, allowing the HTML tag auto complete to work in the text file.

This will work in the text file only when:

• Text file remains open in Notepad++ for that session, ...or
• Text file remains open in Notepad++ (saved or not) when closing Notepad++.

You can save the open Text file as "txt" without deactivating the auto complete function so long as it remains open in Notepad++ as stated above.
The auto complete function will end, or stop working in the text file the moment you do the following:

• close the Text file while Notepad++ is open, ...or
• close the Text file, then close Notepad++.

It is once the Text file is closed as a Text file, the auto complete function is removed from that text file.

To reactivate it in a text file, then return to the setting: "Language > H > HTML".
