SAT - Can CollegeBoard Quantify Your Intelligence? | Video Essay

Today we take a look at the history of College Board, the SAT, and intelligence testing in general . The intro was just designed to parody the dinosauce video from a while back. I'm not actually trying to say, "All of your complaints about AP scores are dumb and entirely unjustified because: [explains history of College Board]!"

I... forgot to put it in the video so I hope this works.

0:00 - Introduction
1:48 - Why? Literally Why?
2:56 - The 1th Exam
4:27 - To be fair, you have to have a...
6:42 - ...high IQ to be prejudiced
7:52 - Poe's Interlude
8:27 - carl
9:27 - Wee Wee 2
11:59 - S.A.T. stands for SAT.
16:21 - GET ON WITH IT
21:16 - Outro

Music:
INTL.CMD - Jody Summer
INTL.CMD - Hyruler
HOME - Overflow
HOME - If I'm Wrong
HOME - Before the Night
HOME - Resonance
Outro is mine

Sources:
I tried to do my best but honestly the research took up the vast majority of the time it took to make this video and I would still almost *guarantee* I got something major wrong. But early on I realized I wasn't writing any of the script and I was just reading random articles for way too long, so I just had to say "enough is enough" and get to work.
Fr*ck MLA, and I'm probably missing a few, but here are probably the most referenced sources:

I loved this one tbh. The meandering and seriousness is perfectly balanced and my very goldfish attention span could keep up. Thank you

6:56 Sure, American intelligence is declining, but I don’t think that has anything to do with mixing races... *PTSD flashbacks to Walmart toilet paper aisle* Maybe you can have accurate intelligence tests: Are you wearing a mask in public? If yes, big brain. If no, peanut brain.

I got a 5 on my AP world history test, and I got the information on the test from video games focused on the time period of history which the essay was on (this was 2020, they cut everything but the DBQ) the only thing I learned in the class was how to write an essay how College board likes. I don’t mean to brag, I’m saying that should not happen. I got a perfect score because I had a rudimentary understanding of the history from reading the textbook once and playing a 19th century economic simulator (which I totally suck at)

Math can actually be pretty fun when you're not forced to memorize the quadratic formula and answer 2 million of the same mundane problems

This is the kind of content I come to YouTube for. Intelligent, not too pretentious, and with enough memes to support my negative attention span

This is by far the best script of any video you’ve made, or at least that I’ve watched. It was really well balanced and my 2 second span brain was able to understand and stay entertained because as sad as it may be when a bunch of facts or large words are thrown at me I stop computing like a 1995 windows computer.

As for adding to the topic that was actually discussed, I’m really not sure if I’ll add much by stating my anecdotal experience but it doesn’t hurt to share I suppose.

The whole question we are exploring is if intelligence can be measured in numbers. Obviously the answer is no or at least you’ve come to that conclusion by the end of this video. I know the ‘mentally unstable’??( would that be the right choice of words. Probably not. I mean those with any mental issues really such as myself) have a hard time taking tests and even just those with test anxiety can’t seem to get through the time limit without wanting to pass out.

Personally I deal with anxiety or at least that is the only mental struggle that impacts my test taking experience. When I take a test I am always almost in tears or already crying ten minutes in. The weight that so many people put on standardized tests makes me nervous to no end where I hyperventilate and cry until I shit talk myself into at least trying or I will be deemed an ‘idiot’ or a ‘failure’ ( I know we talked before about how failing is not really failing if you are happy where you are and I 100% agree but the depression and anxiety bites back harder sometimes ya know). While taking the AP test in my own home earlier this year I nearly passed out because of the extreme anxiety that occurred while I watched the timer count down to the beginning of my AP English exam. If anyone else even has a fraction of these issues it can be extremely difficult to take the test especially since mental issues aren’t seen as an problem to accommodate for(at least not where I live).

This mindset could lead to overthinking and difficulty taking tests which obviously alters scores. This means there isn’t true equality in every single test taker but even without mental issues there never will be a perfect control group for these exams. Around the world the teachers and curriculum vary as well as if the teachers even care to, well TEACH or just do this job to pay their bills. Personally I still haven’t learned algebra because of how bad my teacher was in 8th grade and now Im struggling as a senior in high school with barely any retained information on math. This can go along with the information you mentioned involving African Americans. Back then, some just didn’t have access to the education to learn any of this test material and thus were put at a disadvantage.

Obviously humans are not perfect and I don’t expect them to really believe we could all have absolute equal education or opportunities to create the perfect experiment control group in which the SAT scores would be definite or 100% accurate(at least I hope they don’t). In the end they created a company that needs a lot of changes, but won’t because of the money they receive (because what company isn’t driven by money these days). Intelligence honestly differs depending on the subject and depth of the subject. While some people may be proficient in one area others may have expertise in another and just taking a test on reading and basic algebra and pre calculus is not going to showcase someone who knows 20 languages but can’t find the log of an equation or someone who knows the exact measurements it would take to launch an Apple 47.889 ft in the air but still doesn’t know how to correctly use a semicolon in a sentence. It is rare to see someone who can learn and showcase all tested subjects to perfection. Intellect is spread and usually focused to one subject in each person. To reduce anyone’s basic intelligence into a few measly numbers will never be precise or tell an employer how good they are at a certain skill.

I rambled a lot but I hope I made sense. I’m sorry if it was so much reading but I’ll end on a good note. I don’t know if you remember me from my comment a few weeks ago but your reply warmed my heart and again I still really admire your intelligence and way of speaking. I hope you’re having a good day or week and I love your videos🤍 I also forgot to subscribe last time so uh I am now! Thanks again for all the research you put into these topics 🤍

I believe we should preserve and increase the creativity and novelty in thought in children in order to help them show exceptional ability and this stupid tests do not help with this
