Review: Glyph (Steam & Switch) - Defunct Games

Defunct Games reviews Glyph by Bolverk Games, available now on PC and previously available on Switch.

Save the dystopian desert world from mechanical monsters in Glyph, the stunning new platformer that gives us an unprecedented level of control over our platforming hero. With more than eighty stages and a wide variety of challenging obstacles to overcome, this is a lengthy game that never once gets boring or spins its wheels. Sure, the boss fights feel a bit unnecessary and the visuals are a little bland, but Glyph is a masterfully-constructed adventure that will remind you how much fun 3D platformers can be.

I tried the demo for this game and loved it, bought it on Steam release. The feeling of speed and air movement is perfect, it's super chill and relaxing even when I'm dying over and over.

Non violent 3d movement, fun to control, easy to enjoy visually, physics based movement with just enough control, daring and challenging parts but not unforgiving... Sounds exactly like what I love about Snake Pass, or Snowrunner. On sale for 2€ now, SOLD!

This does look like fun. May have to check it out. As for the question, may have to go with Super Mario 3D World. The fact that you can play the game as Princess Peach is plus for me. Use to always pick to play her in Super Mario Bros 2 on dad's old NES, so was an extra treat for me having that choice there.

This reminds me of Kula World and Unbox: Newbies adventure rolled into one. Great review. Thanks.

This looks cool. Kept wondering how you were going to not die in the video but saw you could navigate to stuff. Looks like it's pure platforming and no attacking and making the bosses do it themselves.

QOTD, Mario galaxy 2 though this can change is I spend more time with Mario odyssey or something else comes along.

Fantastic review Cy, makes me eager to play this. QOTD - apologies for the boring/basic answer, but in recent years, I’ve enjoyed Super Mario Odyssey a lot. Watching your footage of Glyph reminded me of the desert level in that SMO. To me, SMO feels like a real successor to (and evolution) of Super Mario 64. Nothing at all against the Galaxy games, those just feel and play differently.

Oh it seems that I need more space on mz switch :D

Qotd: not my favorite, but I have to say that I had a LOT of fun with new super Lucky's tale. And in one of your reviews I saw "Voodo Vince" and fell in love with the world and characters

Man, what is going on atm? I've noticed a couple of these obstacle course-style 3D Platformers coming out lately - not just Monkey Ball Banana Mania, but... _*checks Microsoft Store right now_ Orbals, Gelly Break Deluxe, and Orbibot all dropped in the past two weeks. Plus I Am Fish is coming up and Skully dropped earlier in the year. I'm a fan of this subgenre of 3D Platformers, and maybe even Mail Mole counts as well... I guess I should actually nab one or two more of these to support the recent influx then :P If Glyph hits Xbox or Playstation, I'll add it to the list of ones to check out!

Hey, is it a THING with youtube that forces you to not include a link to the Game in question, or do you just not care?
