7 Days in a Luxury Cruise Ship Suite (My First Time)

Usually, I book the cheapest cabin on the ship, I don’t mind where it is, and if I do upgrade I consider it a real treat to have a window or any outside space. On this cruise though, my room doesn’t just have a balcony it has it’s own butler and a whole list of perks that I didn’t know existed on cruise ships.

The ship I’m on is MSC’s Euribia, my cabin was assigned a few months before the cruise, and I was given cabin 16016, which is inside an area called MSC Yacht Club. It’s a luxury ship within a ship concept and I didn’t know how that would affect the actual cabin, I’ve never had a cabin above a standard balcony before and this one was called a “Deluxe Suite” which sounded very fancy.

This is my 8th cruise with MSC and its felt like a whole new world for me. I knew I’d have to ask the Butler for cookies but beyond that, I didn’t know what I could possibly use a butler for. It’s not something I’ve spent a lot of time thinking about!

My greatest fear of course was that I would get addicted to this kind of luxury and never be able to cruise in a cheap inside cabin again. That would massively reduce the amount of time I could spend at sea.

Looking at the deck plans it looked as though my cabin was near the reception desk and close to the Top Sail lounge. The whole of MSC’s Yacht Club is towards the front of the ship so I was hoping that we wouldn’t feel too much movement up here as the movement on ships is often more at the ends.

We met our butler in the terminal at check-in and he brought us up to our room. Yacht Club guests have a magic trick with the elevators which give them priority so we didn’t have to make any other stops along the way. I’m not sure I’ve ever made it to my cabin first time without going in the wrong direction before so an escort was appreciated, I’m normally wandering around the cabins, up and down the corridors and having to go back on myself.

It was around 12:30 when we boarded and I was surprised to see that our cabin was already ready for us. Normally the cabins on ships are ready around 3 or so on a cruise which means that you are left carrying your bags around until that time. It’s never a big problem, but it’s definitely nicer to be able to drop off the bags and start the cruise as soon as possible.

Went on the Euribia in June with my mum and one day she didn't feel very well, so after I told the butler that she would stay in bed, both the butler and the junior butler spoiled her all day long, went to see her like every hour to make sure she was ok and the butler made her a fantastic tea made from the bottom with fresh herbs and they gave her what ever she wanted. Wow, what a service they provided!!

Being guided to your suite seems crazy already. Being offered to unpack and later pack your suitcase is also something I´ve never heard of. I have a hard time imagining doing this for someone. The sweets are great. I´d appreciate that any day. Same with the room service.

Suites are another world. We were successful bidders on a Princess cruise last year for a suite and it is so much better than any other class of cabin. Free laundry, free flat of water, free fruit every day, best location for breakfast, early tender use, free use of spa, on and on, wonderful trip on our 32 day cruise.

I'm from Minnesota and I thought a cruise to Norway would be redundant - we have plenty of cold weather, snow, lutefiske, and mountains of our own. But now I'm thinking that a cruise would be worth it. The ship looks like the type that would be relaxing with great views even while inside. i stayed in that same room on a different ship and it was amazing - we purchased a usb rechargeable nightlight with motion sensor - and that has been a great addon - we spoke to an officer when we went, and she claimed that she designed the haven on NCL as well. the difficult issue for us is going back on the msc without getting yacht club, its just the best experience
