Hi...I'm on recruiting duty right now. I appreciate your video. You bring up some good points, first and foremost that if you're joining the Army, you definitely need to do your own research.

I want all my recruits to be happy with their decision, but like the video says, not all recruiters are the same. Most recruiters are going to be honest with applicants, but there are some bad apples out there, which is sad.

If you're still reading, awesome...I want to clarify some things.

Make sure whatever your recruiter says you're getting is ON PAPER. Not all jobs come with airborne or other options attached. If you don't have it in writing, it's not a guarantee. You MIGHT get to go to a high-speed school down the road, but that's obviously not the same as getting it with your contract.

Next, we dont control what jobs are available. Once you take the test we show you a list generated by what you qualify for and what has training seats open. I don't beat around the bush, if an applicant doesn't qualify for a job, I'll say as much and that applicant has to decide what to do at that point. We can call higher and request jobs, but again, there's no guarantee a specific job will be there. Of course, if you're dead set, you can wait and maybe it will come up, but if you don't maintain contact with us and show dedication, it's not likely we're going to keep you "in the system" and check every week, etc.

That said, with my recruits, it's their ball game. Of course I will push them to get through the process so they can start their career and move on, but I'm not going to try to make them do something they don't want to do, and if they want to wait for a certain job or they're not ready to make a decision...the ball's in their court. I will state the likelihood of some jobs coming in the near future, as the Army decides what it needs for the most part each year and once the jobs are taken, they're gone. There won't magically be a new air traffic controller class just because you want there to be one, and I've got applicants who are ready to rock that need my time as well, so that can factor in. At the end of the day, we're not telling you you can't have something just to be assholes. If I can make it happen for somebody, I will. If I can't, I can't.

I hope that answers some questions about the process of job selection. All in all the Army is the most straightforward branch in that regard because once you select a job and we reserve it, it's guaranteed with whatever options come with it. If you get a bad vibe from your recruiter, you should know that you HAVE to be present when reserving a job. That way you see all your options and can make a decision. (Unless you're a special case like prior service where you have to go over jobs with the guidance counselors at MEPS, but that's complicated...)

My final point is that I think recruiters get a bad wrap from the few out there being willfully dishonest. Most of us are out here genuinely working to do right by our recruits.

For me joining was one of the best decisions I ever made and my hope is that that can be the same for everyone I help through the process.

Edit:
There's a current message out where recruits don't need to be present for a job reservation due to COVID (it's been the case a few months now) but I just wear a mask and have my recruits there, so no change, really. I'll be done with recruiting in about a month. Can't wait to scuff up all you suckers that joined 😂 (This is a joke. The fact I had to point this out means I've been recruiting too long).

I stand by everything I've said here. I am/was in New England (not NYC) but it holds true for all recruiters from the time I said it 'til now. Best of luck.

Also...big thing you pointed out before...recruiters don't know jack about MOSs outside their MOS. We ask other recruiters, or friends in other MOSs what it's like, but other than that...we're watching the same cheesy YouTube video from the 80s that you're watching, and making an educated guess. Just be aware of this fact. Do you baby, and remember...ball's in your court.

Best advice.. Do your own research outside of recruitment... Have specific questions for recruiters, record answers. And double check.... Then repeat.. Take your time.. Regardless of branch..

I walked into the army recruiting office, it was depressing, they saw my priors and walked me to the Marine office. Was a much nicer setting imo

In want to be in the Marines and I looked up recruiter stations and this one review said the recruiter took him to the park and made him run and do pull ups and stuff, seems like a good recruiter.

I talked to some Navy recruiters and I had *one* question. They tried to get me to sign over my soul, and I'm like, uh.... No. I don't want to join the Navy. I want to join the Army.
Then they just ganged up on me.
"Are you scared of the water?"
"Just sign this paper and you get a free ball and frisbee."
"The Navy doesn't go to war. The Army has guns and shooting."
"When do you turn 17?"

And I was like, really man??? I *DON'T WANT TO JOIN THE NAVY!!! I JUST HAD A QUESTION!!!*

I’m working with a recruiter now I’m shooting for a 25B if not an 11X and going for Air Assault not Airborne and he’s been
Super helpful along the way fed me a lot of information and sent me home with a decent amount of resources I’m currently finishing my last 3 credits to get my actual high school diploma so I’m looking to finish all my paper work and go off to MEPS around mid fall early winter. But I plan on doing a full 30 and honestly can’t wait to get it all started I’ve wanted to join the Army since I can remember. just wanted to give mad respect to everyone who’s went and who’s on the way to BCT

Very appreciative of the advice of you and others. If I hadn't listened to much advice I might have settled for something like 25S, which is a damn fine job I'm sure. But I got what my heart was set on not even a week after being told it could be up to a year or more till slots open up. I got 17C and shipping out 9/11 to Benning. Keep up the great work with the vids bro.

Great video, and some great advice for anyone thinking about enlisting in the military. I can speak from experience… always make sure that you and your recruiter are 100% in sync with *you* expect to get out of your military service. In addition, be sure to check your enlistment contract *before signing it* to make sure it calls everything out correctly… especially (but not limited to) your AIT station (which can affect your MOS), permanent party station, and any other critical enlistment options that need to be called out.

I'll say your videos have helped me make a big decision. I've talked to a recruiter as well as a lot of friends and family in the military and I should be shipping in August. Just gotta finish this college semester and get some loose ends tied up over summer.

My recruiter told me that 68G is a “unicorn job” She basically said I won’t be able to get that job ever.

My recruiters didn't have patience with me and I really wanted to join, so I ended up going with 12B. Now I leave in the first week of October and I just realized it's going to be hell to switch my mos.

My recruiter was telling me that all of basic training and AIT will take place in my home state (Arizona) and I told him that I wasn’t interested in staying in state so them he turned around and said something along the lines of “oh well it’s very unlikely that you’ll actually remain in state anyway” wtf

I told my Army recruiter I was thinking about changing to the Air Force to get a better chance at aviation. He immediately responded with I can reserve you a 15E MOS if you join the Army. There were 2 spots open according their website and he printed me out my reservation paper.

I told my recruiter what I wanted to do he said "cmon man. You need to help me out." I thought his job was to help people not get helped lol
