I'm not sure if I'll ever get old of someone saying planetary defense in reference to real life stuff. just epic

I will never not be amused that so much of scientific research boils down to a carefully structured and recorded version of, "Let's poke it with a stick and see what happens!"

Given the potentially catastropic consequences of an asteroid impact, I propose that, in order to study the resuts of DART and similar missions more closely, NASA should develop an enormous, space-based middle school.

i love how seriously he says "fluffiness" in the context of this scientific experiment

"No immediate threat"
*Me remembering all the times they say stuff went through blind spots and got too close.

Dude this is so crazy, my school helped with the mission. They set up a whole live stream on our quad for it and everything. And now scishow is talking about it

I helped build the box that shipped it into space. It's not much, but I still feel like I was a small part of history.

"And do you know what helped the DART mission to hit its target without lag? cloud computing!" Transition to this particular sponsor are tough...

never have i ever thought i would hear the word "fluffy" as a descriptor for more porous asteroids

1:20 finding 'clay' on an asteroid would be surprising and exciting indeed. (it needs both running and stagnant water to form...)

This is an amazing feat of engineering and space flight. I hope that we discover that the inside of the asteroid is full of gold, or space chocolate.

Perhaps they should have practiced the game asteroid before taking command of a ship in space. This video game teaches you all about hitting asteroids and other debris in space

RIP didymoon you'll always be in our hearts and stuff

I think we should be testing the slow burn/ gentle but longer lasting nudge over impacts. Debris could be just as or more dangerous than asteroid pre impact. We should be testing a few options at the same time.

Yea, maybe it was an expensive mission with no obvious, short term benefit
BUT I would much rather know that we CAN do this, instead of waiting to figure it out in the moment we ever HAVE TO

Fluffy Asteroid would make a great alias.🤯
