Some had predicted a babyboom during lockdown. But initial research suggests birth rates have fallen. Scientists say the data collected point to a 15 percent drop in birth rates in the United States in the coming months. The picture varies around the world. But, all in all, it looks like fewer babies are being born. A higher impact on the well-being of new mums and affects on older generations further down the track. That leaves many wondering what long-term effects COVID-19 could have on fertility rates.

Between debt from college, taxes, low wages, sky rocketing rent, cost of living on the rise, and now Corona virus, most of today's adults are not selfish enough to bring children into this world to suffer.

Because babies and children are expensive. We young people can't afford them let alone ourselves.

Many Western nations had below replacements before we heard of The Rona. Don't blame Rona for this.

We have a pandemic, a global recession and finite resources. You are literally doing the world and urself a favor by not having a child at this moment.

There's plenty of children waiting / needing to be adopted.

Don't have children, live free and just for yourself.

Hasn't the lockdown also caused a rise in divorces? That would contribute to a falling birth rate. I guess some people discovered through the lockdown that they couldn't put up with each other's quirks after they REALLY got to know each other.

I never think about having kids. I have horrible genetics that I don’t want to pass down.

Good news! There’s more than enough people on this planet. Never had any dreams to become a parent, and have no thoughts of changing my mind.

I just don’t want kids plain and simple. Not everyone wants a relationship/family. I’m a selfish man

The worlds population is still growing. Men need to take responsibility for their children or get a vasectomy.
There are too many hungry, homeless children in the world. Having a child you can not provide food, shelter, clothing and love for is cruel. Population needs to be in balance with resources. Governments and corporations want population growth for cheap labor with people fighting for jobs.

In Gemany, people have to pay 43% income tax. That's why lots of people can only afford one child and delay marriage and child birth after 35 years old.
