Testing the Accuracy of My New Breathalyzer

I purchased a new breathalyzer to use on my Uber passengers but first I invited Steph and Phoebe over to my home to unbox and test it out before hitting the town for a night out!

This is from an episode of REVERSE Uber Rides where Steph, Phoebe and I get drunk and have a night out on the town! It is one of my favourite videos on the channel - highly recommend!

Make sure you have fresh batteries in it or for it at all times, and no rechargsble ones unless it uses 3.7v lithiums like 14500s, 18650s etc. A lot of these units that use regular AAA or AA batteries will only work accurately as long as the battery voltage remains around 1.5 volts, and normal rechargable ones are just 1.2 volts with a full charge. As a cherry on top, some of these units still drain the batteries a lot when turned off. My solution has been to always keep extra, fresh batteries along with the unit, and pop a small piece of cardboard between the tip of the battery and the terminal inside the machine when not in use. That way the circuit is broken and the batteries inside are disconnected while still in the unit (a convenience compromise, couldn't afford a better model).

I suspected the readings were off, but really confirmed it a few years ago. Had a pitstop on a holiday drive that turned into a full night. Before bed we all had a go on the unit to get a rough idea of the situation; how long until we could continue the drive, how early we had to get up etc. And we all measured around 0.08, which was obviously BS as were all well fed and still stumbling sh1tfaced. Woke up 6 hours later remembering the battery thing, swapped fresh ones in, and none of us read under 0.15. Had anyone of us been dimwitted enough to ignore our own bodily intoxication and just trusted the machine and its first reading, they might have hit the road hours ago at that point, potientially to catastrophic ends. Instead we knew we were looking at _at least_ 8-10 more hours, so we all booked another night and got back to bed.

One REALLY important thing about the “legal limit”. Just because you are under 0.08 BAC DOES NOT inherently mean you can legally drive. If you are above 0.08, you 100% get a DUI. But even if you are under 0.08, if you are still impaired, you can get a DUI as well

Just a reminder for all my fellow Americans that this guy lives in Australia, so bringing up American laws and policies is irrelevant lol😊

Doesn’t matter…If you consciously drink, you know you shouldn’t be driving.
