I think the problem is the lack of strong leaders. Also, the democracy is as strong as the people are knowledgeable/aware

Democracy slows down everything, whether it be progress or destruction .

Also Roman Empire was a democracy, the fall of Roman Empire became with the destruction of democracy, and implementation of autocracy. Too much concentration of power is always bad.

I think we need hybrid political structure between democracy, autocracy and meritocracy. ❤

As you said, empires came and went. The most powerful nation in the world from past 1 century is USA, a fully democratic nation.

We are couple of hundred years late for that. One of the major reasons India is respected world wide is because of its democracy

We need to have all our politicians be extremely educated, and not allow criminals and gang leaders to join the ranks of MPs...

A good question. Democracy is an expression of the average, at its best. A good section of Indian voters are ill informed, ignorant and swayed by freebies. This vitiated the pitch. Add the percentage of informed people staying away. This gives a heady cocktail for unscrupulous politicians to make hay. Let us see if Sri. Modiji is able to turn the clock at least a little.

Oh and we conveniently forgot the US which is the most powerful country for the last 100 years and is surprisingly a democracy. It's not fair to correlate these two because not many countries were democracies in the modern sense in ancient times...

Also it depends on what is the goal of the society. Is it to rule large masses of land or is it to enrich the people that you rule.

Democracy is the only way forward for India

An autocracy can screw you over anytime. Democracy can be slow but it is not directly harmful to its citizens
