Very fascinating! Thank you, Doctor Cliff and Doctor Rachel! This all allows me to understand better what my wife goes through (or is supposed to go through) with her audiologist. Looking forward to next week’s episode!

I do understand the benefits of going to an audiologist for hearing assessment, but I could not admfford $8000+ for a pair of heariing aids. Went to Costco and have gotten EXCELLENT CARE and programming of my new aids. Thus far, I'm pleased and confident that the team in Lancaster can meat my needs. They showed me pre-fitting test box results and Printed out REM's for me. We discussed the most important HA programs that I would personally need to start, given my employment status. I already have a return check up appointment at the 2 week mark. Very pleased

Very interesting video. I put on headphones and turned up the sound. Some of the photos were difficult to look at . I’m definitely not medical professional material. Brings back memories of Anatomy for speech 101 that I took as a science credit in college. Learned a lot from this video and from that college class. One thing I learned in that class that i hope i never have to do in real life is an emergency tracheotomy. One of those kind of things that’s probably good to know but never want to do. It’s right up there with changing the oil in my car and excel spreadsheets as things I know but never plan to do.

On the tympanogram, what are the X-axis and Y-axis units-of-measure? What on X-axis is “daPa”? (I assume “Pa” is Pascals pressure but “da”?) What on Y-axis is “cc” or “mmhos”? (“mm” is millimeters excursion [?] but “hos” and “cc”?)

Does the stapedius muscle reflex have a time delay that varies with sound amplitude, or just displacement?

For a new patient, is a BASELINE tympanogram part of best practices? Or is it for later follow-up, only once some condition arises?
