I'm going to go against the grain here by saying that I like the singing androids. I find that they WORK for it in a bizarre kind of way. And the whole movie (assuming you've seen it) has a kind of quirky vibe, so it fits with THAT too.

I love the original, and I love this movie, but why would they give one of the most beautiful Beatles songs to the robots? Beegees did a good job when they came in, but why is R2-D2 singing parts of it?

When they finally start using unprocessed vocals for the chorus, it's a huge relief. The one thing the Bee Gees could be relied on for is good singing. They didn't need the stupid Vocoder or whatever it is.
