Hi Matthews: l was 20 years old when this happened. I tell you the entire world held our breaths with this event, and 🙏🏽prayed and were glued to Televisions 📺 while those men were in perial in space. This replay brought tears to my eyes taking me back in time.
You are doing something good and very fine with your YouTube education videos and commenting as the video plays. This makes watching
So much more interesting Good show, well done to you. Keep moving on. Thank you.

Sometimes it’s easy to forget how powerful hope is, they held on to hope for so long and made it through

I was about 11 at the time and I vividly remember how the news ran constantly, and it wasnt todays rabidly one sided politically hateful news it was walter cronkite, chet huntley and david brinkley and you knew it was unbiased and focused on only one thing - bringing our heros home. IF you have any interests in this event there are many programs that replay all the original communications of the day to day drama, OR you can watch the movie "Apollo 13" with Tom Hanks that does a very good job of recreating the event and all that happened. I miss the feeling of worldwide unity one could feel during this time - something we never see today

I was a young girl at that time but I remember family talking about it. Think about it, those guys up there with a computer so ancient that it could do so little, yet we thought it was awesome and so advanced. If it wasn't for the human factor on the ground and their great minds there would not have been something to celebrate. Kudos to all that had anything to do with bringing those courageous men home!!!!

I grew up under the high tension lines [main supply line of electricity] on a misty nights; you could take a 4 foot long florescent light bulb: hold it by 1 end & rub it with other hand: & it then glowed without rubbing it!.

One of my friends' fathers, who used to work for NASA during the 60's in Apollo Program. He was one of astronauts' techs who assist astronauts. In January of 1967, threes astronauts were in capsule designated as Apollo 1. That afternoon in January 1967, they were preparing for a test called "Plugs Out Test". This test simulates conditions of ship can operate without cables and other connections are detached. This test is supposed to be non-hazardous. At 1pm, test was going good. Test was halted at 1:20 pm after Grissom noticed a strange odor in the capsule. They took air samples. Everything was going great until about 6:30pm, when Grissom yelled, "hey fire!" Father told me that he heard them screaming get us out! But it was too late. They died. Cause of the fire done by a wire. Plus, capsule was pressurized with pure oxygen. After this accident, there were changes in Apollo Program such as using 2 gas systems to use in capsule: 60% Oxygen and 40% Nitrogen.

If anyone wants to know about the importance of engineering, there is no better example than the story of Apollo 13.

The crew of Apollo 1 wasn't as lucky as Apollo 13. A truly tragic story.

You have a valid question about why the initial launch of Apollo 13 wasn't newsworthy... People had gotten used to it by then to be honest. After the first moon landing, the public interest began to drop... I don't know how, I live near Kennedy Space Center and Rocket launches NEVER get old

'Houston, we have a problem!"

That exact quote is exactly why we say it and use it to this day. Back in the day it would be used more so when something usually electrical malfunctioned in a fairly big way, and it wasn't an easy fix. Over time why it is said is a little different, as in it can also be used in a joke, to bring attention to an issue, to grab attention, etc.!!!

If you haven't seen it already, you should do a reaction to the movie Apollo 13. It stars Tom Hanks, Bill Paxton and Kevin Bacon (with a host of other well known actors). It's very true to the story, with very little added for dramatic effect (considering none is needed lol). That being said, movie or not, it's an inspiring story of American ingenuity and heroism.

Two of the Astronauts were aerospace engineers. They were given packages for their personal stuff one packed Duct Tape another his lucky Swiss Army Knife.
They were able to save oxygen by fitting round tube into square hole with the tape and knife. The Angels were with them all the way. Peace.
