Howdy! Because I think we needed a break from Peppa Pig to talk about another of the worst kids cartoons. Dora the explorer.

We all know that if Peppa Pig and Dora met eachother, a war over who's the more annoying cartoon character would break out, with no survivors remaining.

I remember when I was like, 4 or 5. you know, the target demographic, I scientifically tested wether dora was actually waiting for a response, or if it was prerecorded (I was old enough to know what a tv was but too young to understand animation I guess). First I didn't respond at all, but she still answered, second, I gave her the wrong answers, yet she acted as if I was correct. The results were conclusive, I was being duped.

At least Blues Clue's inserted children's responses whenever Steve or Joe asked a question. And the pauses after questions in Bear in the Big Blue House weren't even half as long as Dora's. Conclusion: Children's edutainment is better with the word Blue in the title.

I can honestly say I’ve learned a lot more from “Go, Diego, Go” and “Ni Hao, Kai Lan” than I have from this show....

Yeah Tom Kenny was right, these shows are boring!

What I hate most about Dora is how they practically talk down to the audience in the way they speak and stuff as if they do not expect the children watching to understand a single word they say.

At least in a show like Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, Mister Rogers talks to the audience in a somewhat show and careful pace but not slow enough to sound condescending. And it’s not even repetitive. He knows children are much smarter than we realize.

As a former educator, I can see where they were coming from with formatting this show like this and having long, awkward pauses between sentences. It makes perfect sense when you understand the theory behind it. However, there are two problems with this in practicum:
1. This leaves quick-witted children unchallenged and idle for several seconds at a time. As a result, a child in the 60th percentile or higher will probably spend as much time waiting, if not more, for something else to happen on the show. At a young age, an idle mind is a rotting mind. It's fine if the kid needs time to process the information, but if the kid is done figuring out the answer 10 seconds before Dora, that's a problem. It's just like that scene from Billy Madison where he lashes out at the kid for trying to read, only nobody's laughing.
2. It immediately dismisses the idea that a child could grow up just fine without these awkward pauses. I grew up in a time when Nick Jr. showed Japanese import shows more often than anything else. Action sequences involving cave-ins and competitions are way more formative than sitting around, waiting for Boots to figure out how to fit the green peg in the red hole on Puzzle Bridge.

Ah yes, the floor here is made out of floor.

You know even though Go Diego Go is a spin off series to Dora the explorer and is very similar to it, call me crazy but I actually find Go Diego Go a lot more tolerable.

As a person who grew up with Dora I can confirm I learned more from staring at the wall than I did the show. I don't remember a single thing from Dora, I learned more from anime because anime actually teaches people meaningful things.

When Dora was parodying A Christmas Carol, they probably didn't want to use the ghosts from the original source material because the production team behind this show feared that it would be deemed as too scary for kids

When i was younger, swiper was my favorite. Idk but he was considered complex at my age. Probably because he needs help too and sometimes he's even the good guy. Its probably not that deep now that i think about it

I remember the "hic-boom-oh" episode. I heard my dad say to my mom from the kitchen "I swear to god if I hear Dora say 'hic boom oh' one more time, I'm never letting Grace watch Dora again."

It's obviously titled "Dr. Dora" because she was wearing a stethoscope. Everyone knows that is where doctors get their power.

Dora the Explorer is basically Internet Explorer as a human. They both take 20 minutes to process basic information, and they're both explorers.

In my opinion, Dora The Explorer traumatized me. The awkward dialogue pauses made me get angry and irritated easily, one time I shot a Nerf dart at the TV because it annoyed me so much.
