Hey guys, today we are gonna show you how to make takoyaki balls.
Takoyaki is one of the famous street foods you will find in Japan especially in Osaka area where it originated. On this video we are gonna show how to make this simple and easy recipe using a premixed flour.
Ingredients:
Batter:
*250g takoyaki premixed flour
*1 egg
*750mL water
Fillings:
*Cooked Octopus (takoyaki balls basically use cooked octopus - tako in Japanese) as a variation, you can also use squid or, some people use cheese as their main filling, well we can also change the name in that case :D
*pickled ginger
*fried tempura batter (tenkasu)
*dried shrimp - optional
*green onions - optional
Toppings:
*dried seaweeds (aonori)
*bonito flakes
*takoyaki sauce
*mayonaise
*cheese - optional
*green onions - optional
Make the batter:
1. In a big bowl, mix altogether the takoyaki flour mix, egg and water. Give it a good mix until all the ingredients are well incorporated.
2. Prepare your takoyaki pan and set it to the highest temperature level. Grease with oil, make sure to grease well all over the top of the pan.
3. When it's ready, pour in the batter mixture. Fill each hole with batter until the side level of the pan.
4. Put in the fillings. Fill each hole with all the filling ingredients and one piece each of the tako or octopus.
5. Cook for 3-4 minutes or until the bottom part has hardened.
6. We will be using a takoyaki stick or any skewer stick.
7. Prepare for turning by bringing the sides of each ball to the center. It becomes too messy at this point, but don't worry, everything will be cleaned up as you cook your takoyaki balls. :D
8. To turn each ball, try digging the sides and try rotating slowly. At this point, the bottom part of our takoyaki balls has turned brown, that means it's already half cooked. It's easier to turn when the bottom part has hardened, browned and cooked, like the usual frying.
9. After turning, cook for another 4 mins or when everything has turned golden brown.
10. Repeat the process for the remaining batter.
11. Put the toppings: dried seaweeds, bonito flakes, takoyaki sauce and mayonaise. You can also add cheese or green onions.
12. Serve hot and enjoy. Itadakimasu.

***We will also upload another video on how to make the traditional recipe, including the takoyaki sauce. :D
