I’m a little confused on how to read the tables! What do the numbers mean? And the letter R? And the hollow versions above the fret? Do some of these chords require tuning specific strings differently?

How can I build such a sequence myself? For example, we know that for a C chord, G and A major will sound better. But what about chords, for example, Cmaj7 and Dm9? In what section of music theory should I study this? Why, for example, Cmaj7 and Dm9 correspond so well? I will be glad if you answer
