Hi Brianne, the reason the + changes to a - when you get rid of the brackets is that you have distribute the - to BOTH terms in the brackets. So -(k + 4) is actually like saying -1 x k plus -1 x 4 (a negative by itself is the same as -1) so you get -k - 4 after you distribute. Hope that helps, good luck on your exams!

+Greivin Vega Aguilar - In order to show that k = 2, you have to subtract the second and first terms and make it equal to the difference of the 3rd and 2nd terms.  For instance, if you had the sequence 5, 10, 15... 10-5 = 15-10.  So in the problem we need to do the following: (5k+2) - (k+4) = (10k-2) - (5k+2).  Those ones can be a little tricky, but it tells you the answer for k is 2 so you can always just use that to complete the rest of the problem even if you do not get the part A.  Hope that helps.

Yes you can use your own calculator. The only two apps that you are allowed to have are Finance and PlySmlt2. There is a program for the Ti-84 which disables all the other apps. If your school is making you use a different calculator make sure that you transfer Plysmlt2 to it beforehand. It would be real disadvantage not to have that APP for simultaneous equations and solving equations.

They should be if you have a graphing calculator. That includes the TI-82, 83 and 84 series. You can also use a TI-Nspire CX or TI-89, but the methods for doing the same calculations on those calculators are a little different and not addressed in the videos. You might have to download the plysmlt2 APP from the TI website if you do not have it or get a friend to transfer it to you from another calculator.
