For over four decades, NASA's Voyager 1 has been exploring the depths of interstellar space, making groundbreaking discoveries since its 1977 launch. Recently, however, Voyager 1 has made headlines for an "impossible" discovery that has left scientists both puzzled and concerned. Despite being over 15 billion miles away, Voyager 1 continues to function, sending data back to Earth. Yet, its attitude articulation and control system (AACS) has started transmitting data that doesn’t align with the spacecraft's operations, leaving researchers in a quandary. As NASA works to understand and resolve this anomaly, join us on a journey to explore the mysteries of this distant probe and its unexpected findings that challenge our understanding of the universe.

Well once again I learned Voyager 1 is 15 billion miles away, that it visited Jupiter and Saturn, and that it was launched in 1977 and its power supply is running out. I also once again learned that the staff are having trouble communicating with it.

The RTG is not a battery. It is a refined radioactive rock. The rock simply radiates. The RTG collects electrons thrown off by the rock. The RTG is at the end of that long stick.

Very rare. You only encounter them on days which have a name that ends in "day".

Why? No faith in the engineering skills of our pioneers? Battery life was estimated to expire in 2025.
