Atlantic Salmon v Steelhead Trout? A taste test

Well…I guessed correctly! Here are the differences:

1. Taste: In all honestly, they tasted very similar, with the salmon being bit more “fisher”

2. Texture: This was how I was able to tell a difference. The trout was flakier and leaner, while the salmon was a bit more oily and “bouncier” in texture. Upon some research, it’s noted that trout is a lot leaner than salmon, which explains what I tasted.

3. Price: Steelhead trout was 18.99 /lb and the salmon coming in at 21.99 /lb. Trout’s cheaper price and similar flavor might be something to consider when shopping. Both are farmed since the wild varieties are endangered.
