I feel like Chinese badminton team trained Chen Long almost specifically for playing Lee Chongwei: solid defence to counter Lee's quick smashes (24:08, 21:53, 15:41, 11:02, 30:07) great backhand to counter/inject change of pace (15:43), higher reach for quick smashes for not giving Lee any time to break (28:32, 20:12, 14:00)

Lee's only chances were 1) baiting Chen into attack/bating Chen into soft drops, this way he moves Chen around and mess up Chen's defence (11:04, 2:42, 5:00, 18:00) 2) to speed up and gain control of the front court (4:00, 4:29, 5:00, 16:35). He did try to speed up many times in early/mid game, but unfortunately for a man at age of 34, he couldn't keep up the full speed for the entire match. Chen also played a better base game, as Lee made many mistakes towards the end of game 1 (29:28, 31:25, 27:27) potentially due to tiredness from speeding up too early & a dreadful match with LD the day before.

Anyways, this was a great match, and I am glad to analyze it after 4 years. Thanks for the upload.

Badminton is an underrated sport. It’s so fast and so difficult it’s crazy that these people can react to a tiny shuttlecock flying super fast and manage to calculate the position it will be when they intercept it. All within 1-2 seconds! Wow.

Defence master Chen Long has got another silver medal in 2021 Tokyo Olympics at his 32. Huge respect to these two players.

Respect to LCW....the most consistent player in Badminton, 3 consecutive silver medal in olympic and 4 consecutive silver medal in World Champs. All of the seven medals defeated by only 2 players, LD dan CL

Both perform very well. Chen's win based on solid defense, variety and sudden smash. Unforgettable cry of Chen after his win.

Chen Long from 2014-2016 was unstoppable. The guy played at his best when highly motivated. He is lacking motivation now, but can't deny his talent.

I must admit, it is quite painful to watch this. Although I like Chen Long, I just can't stand watching LCW lose his last Olympic match.

Lee Chong Wei lost 7 chances to win the World Championships and Olympics gold medal all because of 2 players:
1) Lin Dan - World Championships (2011 & 2013) and Olympics (2008 & 2012)
2) Chen Long - World Championships (2014 & 2015) and Olympics (2016).
So sad for him...My badminton fighting hero...

Who’s here after Axelsen won Chen Long for the 2021 Olympic Gold Medal?

Defeated Lin Dan only to be stopped by Chen Long. Must have been heart wrenching for LCW after making so many Olympic Finals

Imagine if Lee Chong Wei matched Lin Dan in this Rio final, It would have been really epic. If Lee Chong Wei won, he would have gotten his redemption after so long and if Lin Dan had won, he would have upped his legendary status by being the first & only men's single to win 3 Olympic finals. Would have been a dream for us badminton fans to watch.

Lee Chongwei/Li Zhongwei is a hero of both China and Malaysia because his a Chinese and a Malaysian. As a Chinese I feel sad that he missed his last chance for a Gold Medal but at least he get to beat his former opponent Lin Dan. His defeat made me happy and sad at the same time. Long Live Sino-Malaysian Friendship.

For those think that Chen Long got lucky: He's a 2 times world champion in 2014 & 2015, he has achieved gold silver & bronze medals in 2016, 2021 & 2012 respectively

At the moment, I really hope that Dato LCW will get his gold medal. He was really on pressure. Either lose or win, he still on my heart. Love from INA❤️🙏

Chen Long was really the best in the world for a short period from 2015-2016, especially when LD and LCW were already dropping during those years.
