In this video I show you how I take large pieces of schedule 40 PVC pipe and make it flat. I am using this PVC for my upcoming boat projects.

I recently started making reptile hides out of pvc. Tried using a heat gun many times with minimal success on 4 foot pieces. Eventually tried boiling them and it worked out really well. Im using 2 propane burners like you would use for a fish fry and a long galvanized tub. Boil it for about 5 minutes and you can make whatever shape you want.

Thank you very much. I need to fashion a tapered shim and pvc would be the perfect material. I Will be attempting this tonight, but inside a gas oven. Thanks again!

Bro awesome idea! I used a 4ft piece of ducting 6” bought myself some 3/4 Sheetrock which gave me top and bottom of the oven and also gave me 2 huge flattening pieces, with my set up heat gun set at 770f I heated 3ft of pvc schedule 40, 5mins turned over and another 5 mins layer in between Sheetrock and laid down on it. Use oven gloves! You saved me a fortune hopefully earning a fortune!

You can also put it in your oven at 350f for about 8 minutes. It won't stink up the house but I advise doing it when the wife is out. You have to work fast and be warned that it wants to go back to round if you reheat it.

Just a note from my own experience. Thick foam pvc pipes take about 5-6 minutes with a new heat gun. Thin pvc can be moldable within 1-2 minutes. So be careful not to go longer than that on each side.

Also lifting off the wood will release a lot of smoke, dont breathe that in.

after you flatten the PVC if you cut two pieces about 5" squire could you glue them together using PVC glue to make them about 1/4" thick?

I wonder if it's possible to use steel compression rollers or even a rolling pin to thin out the material while it's hot.. what you think?

For under 24 inches I heat it in the oven heated to 280 drgrees f.

What did you use to make the initial cut down the length of the pvc before placing it in the heat gun oven?

Is there any spring back? Does the pvc have any “memory”

I am trying to make a face (mask?) out of PVC, but need suggestions. I have made animals out of PVC, but this is different. After flattening ...except the edges like a mask... PVC, I cut PVC into 7 x 10 oval head shape. Now I am trying to "shape" the front into a nose, mouth and eyes. Does anyone know how to do this?

I have been trying to accomplish this for several days now, and I must be doing something wrong. First I tried a piece of regular 4 inch PVC about 3 feet long with no success. The tube wall is so thick the heat had no effect. Next I tried 4 inch thin wall (drainage) tubing, first at 3 feet long and then at 1 foot long. Neither became the soft flexible sheet you pulled from your stove pipe, and neither flattened out like yours did. Both had ridges and humps in them and they started hardening almost immediately. Can you offer any advice? I'm desperate.

Which weighs more, you or the cinder block? 🤔😉

"Loose" is not the best term. Pliable? Soft? Flexible? Lots of words that actually mean what you're wanting to describe. SMH
