Epiphany Farms Pastured Poultry Shelter (Mobile Chicken Pen) Design v.1.0 - Part 1 of 2 - Nov. 2017

At the Epiphany Farms Estate in Downs, IL, our Livestock Manager Kenneth "Jeb" Johnston talks about version 1 of our moveable chicken coops, compares and contrasts this initial design with our new one, discusses our chicken rotation practices and how they assist in building healthy, nutrient-dense soil. These designs were inspired by Joel Salatin’s design for mobile coops from his book Pastured Poultry Profits. At the Estate, our chickens are helping us to convert pasture to garden sites. When enough nutrients are installed in the soil we will begin planting vegetables and other crops, expanding our volume and selection of nutritious organic produce. Our pasture-raised chicken is served at Epiphany Farms Restaurant and Anju Above in Bloomington, and Old Bank in Le Roy Illinois.
