One of the shortest, yet smartest shorts I've seen. So simple and yet so few ppl realize, at least in my experience.

I've never thought 🤔 to test for a bad coil this way and I've been rebuilding and repairing engines for 40 plus years. WOW, just goes to show no matter how long or how well you know your trade, you can always be taught something about it. Bravo to you sir.

Now swap a known good coil to the malfunctioning cylinder and see if the misfire follows the bad coil.

I’ve done this before a few handful of times and it’s always been spot on. Additionally, I’ll take the bad coil and move it to another place and take the one from there and out where the bad one was initially. Just to make sure it’s bad. Appreciate the very informative short clip!

The problem is clear, no spark, can be not be heard + no change to the running of the engine on the second cylinder.
Either the coil is dead or some electrical failure.

Forgot to warn people of getting shocked. Not a fun feeling. Some go into cardiac arrest. Pull the coil connector instead. And make sure your other hand isn't on the car. 32 yrs experience. Been zapped a few times.

This shows how to find a misfire not a bad ignition coil . Misfire can be due to bad injector, spark plug, coil, or even wiring / ecu related .

My dad when I was a kid would mess with me and teach me a lesson with this kinda thing
Would tell me the pull the coil wire of the plug on a lawnmower and he gonna ya k on it to see if there’s a spark

And get my ass good
He’d start laughing so hard

Man reminds me when my neighbors car wouldn't start wasn't pulling any codes but decided to crank it and listen to each stroke, realized only one cylinder was firing so checked the coil packs and the first one I pulled broke on half taking it out spark plugs looked bad too still decided to check for spark and suddenly the sentra started with only 3 of the 4 spark plugs in the engine, guess I had done something inadvertently to fix it but somehow the neighbor has yet to change it all and it's been over a year, it won't die

Hey man! I didn’t think of doing this. It works. Bought a set of coils. Used this to find the bad one. Changed it. I’m good to go. Now I’ve got three good ones in case I need them in the future. 👍

I remember thinking I was so smart cause I saw someone do this years ago so I went to test it out on my buddys car that was misfiring and unplugged the connector instead, let me tell ya, great way to shock the hell out of yourself

Then you swap it with one of the other known good ones. If it travels then it's the coil. If it doesn't then it's in the harness.

Very nice hope you and the family is doing well I've have a simular issue on my hhr but it has it amplifier looking piece that mounts on the top of the casing that holds down those coil packs . I know a real good mechanic but I've lost his number his name was Rocky wish I was able to get intouch with him again. Thanks for the video 🎉😂🎉

Did this exact thing the other day, coil 4 was dead. Worked great didn’t need to pull out a code reader 👍

I always just unplug the coil from the wiring harness. If the engine sounds different/starts shaking a little and typically if the car starts idling at a lower rpm you know the coil is bad and needs to be replaced . If there’s no difference in sound, movement and the idle is the same then the coil is good and you should move on to plugs or injectors if you have a misfire.
