6k 60p cropped, are you sure? That would be amazing

Like Gerald stated, the S5II seems to be the very best value at the $2000 price point. You'd have to spend $3500 or more for any incremental additional qualities in a camera. $2000 is a one heck of a price point. I am sure Panasonic will have trouble meeting demand.

I've been an S5 Mark 1 user for two years now, (I also use sony and canon cams for work) and honestly before the Mark 2 was announced would have told anyone I feel like the s5 was the best bang for your buck in a camera. Any upgrade from the S5 has felt like giving up a whole heck of a lot unless you spend a lot more money, and even then you lose some things you want as your daily driver. Some of the S52 upgrades sound awesome, and if I were in the market for another camera I feel like it would be a no brainer. That said, my S5 works great and has a ton of life left in it so my money will probably be going more to lenses than upgrading my body, good new I suppose tho in a few years when I want to upgrade to an S53 maybe.

I heard someone say Panasonic is the only camera really stepping up it’s game for us to provide us what we need at a reasonable price

The main issue for me would be that it is not just buying a camera, but it is also buying into the system. While it is cheaper than the most direct competitors, but at the same time I am slightly skeptical about the future. While this cam is very good, especially for that price, but it would also mean to some degree putting money on the fact that the next cameras will be as good (or as good as the competitors) if you want to upgrade or want to switch in the future.

Even though I'm not in the market to buy a new camera right now this is still amazing we see competition like this.

I was ready to pre-order on the leaked specs alone. I was sold on the s5 but decided to wait for something a little more future-proof with the rumors of the s5ii and I'm glad I did. For me, it ticks all the boxes of what I need, what I want, and stuff I didn't even know existed. It's honestly overkill for everything I do now, but I'm hoping to grow into a lot of these skills as I attempt more and more ambitious projects.

So far and all the reviews I've seen at the autofocus it's apparently being absolutely great

Keenly waiting for the LUMIX camera with 4k60 without crop, the tilt/flip screen, an optical low pass filter, and built in variable ND filter. That would be a camera in keeping with 2023

Panasonic did a great job on the auto focus, that’s a welcomed improvement. Their stabilization is really impressive and keeping it at the same price, makes it a great buy. Now, we wonder what will Nikon have to offer. Seems no camera release at CES, bummer.

I look forward to the introduction of this AF to the MFT range. I can see a GH6 M2, GH5 M3, G9 M2. It is going to be an exciting year or two. L-mount is okay, but MFT is where a lot of us like to be.

Simon, this camera is a game changer. You are correct Panasonic has already been offering video capabilities that only Blackmagic has offered at its even lower price point for the pocket 4k. At 2000-2200 for the Panasonic, this camera is definitely compelling and especially the S5IIX with USB-C Hard drive support. Heck the only two things that Panasonic could have put into the camera would have been built in Cf Express and built in ND filters, but you can't expect that for 2200. I would like them to up the price a little bit to add these two features. Panasonic will push everyone else to either lower their prices or step up their games.

Pulled the trigger on a pre-order for the S5 IIX. I have to wait until May 31st for shipping, but it's worth the wait and the slight increase in price. Why? S5 II does not support external SSD drives for recording, doesn't support 4:2:2 10-Bit in S&Q modes nor live streaming. Yes, you can add RAW recording via the HDMI port on the S5 II, but it's a $200 license key, where as it's free on the S5 IIX. The "WAIT" in this video would be in my opinion to remind customers that the extra functions may or may not be worth waiting for, especially as the $200 software license only unlocks the RAW recording, not the other features.

Also, with the autofocus - apparently, there was a firmware update during these reviewers' testing that significantly improved the autofocus (heard this from CVP). To me, it seemed like in some reviews the autofocus was performing almost as good as Sony's, and in others it was struggling a bit. This could have been due to some reviewers using the older firmware, and others using the new firmware. All just speculation.

Phase Detect is important for Solo filmmaking and run&gun so would buy S2. definitely going to get my hands on it and there is live lumix video tomrrow

Still need clarity if the RAW via HDMI will alow BRAW or Prores Raw Support. Thats one question I can't seem to find an answer for. If its like the S5 Mark 1 I imagine it will be be able to do so.

Any chance of Panasonic releasing this year an upgraded S1 or S1H with 4k 60p full frame and 4k 120p? I was about to buy the FX3 just to have these specs but I have been in the Panasonic ecosystem for the past 7 years. I was hoping to get these spec in the S5iix or at least hear some news of a new S1H upgrade soon!
I will wait few months before making the move on the FX3, hoping that Panasonic will announce a new camera.

I would happly buy the S5 II X today, but unfortunately it will be in the market by the end of May only. I'm pretty sure that the concurrency will try to keep up till there.
Awesome review btw ;)

I preordered it within a day of the embargo lift, I needed something with longer record times for interviews and weddings to pair with my S5 and L-glass (PDAF is def a plus)

I still think the S5 has a place for filmmakers (especially beginners and focus pullers). For the cost of the S5ii+the firmware update for RAW, you can buy an S5 used, an Atomos Ninja V, and a 500gb card to get 5.9K RAW up to 30p

this is what I needed. confirmation that Lumix is here to stay. I am now willing to go full frame with Lumix after great years passed with the gh5. I was thinking about leaving for lack of reliable autofocus. I do music videos mostly and manual focusing, while not being impossible to deal with, I'm glad I'll be able to get great autofocus on a great system. Nice job Lumix! Bright future ahead!
