Hey, I just wanted to counter the other comments and say that I really appreciated the pace of the video. It was clear to me that your target audience was someone like me who has a lot of technical know-how already. Making a whole theme itself is going to require more in-depth knowledge than simply creating a few files, so people who found this overwhelming are in for a surprise. You cannot be expected to teach everyone WordPress 101 and PHP 101 just to demo how to create a child theme.

When I bought my first and last theme I used the parent theme and I thought that the child theme is just like a demo and I have to use the parent theme instead even when the author said that I have tp use the child theme but I didn't listened to him. Later I modified the parent theme because the author didn't release an update for more than two years and now the author have released the update but I will lose my changes if I update the theme. So now I know how important the child theme is. I really didn't gave the child theme time to make myself read about it in deep.Thank you for your video because one of the reasons that why I didn't use the child theme was because I thought that the child theme only consist of style and functions files and what I wanted is to modify the single file so that's why I had to go with the parent theme. Now I know that I can do more with the child theme. ☺ 😊 😃

Tip: Just download the Child Theme Configurator plugin. Does everything for you.

There is no "get_stylesheet_uri" in functions.php in the Divi parent theme folder .. I see though .. :|

Why couldn't you show how to make a child theme of an Elegant Themes theme like Divi instead of Twenty Seventeen? It might also be worth mentioning that the child themes 'Template Name:' should actually match the name of the parent themes folder, not the name of the parent theme itself...

finally, was getting 'Theme is missing the style.css stylesheet error' make sure if writing in notepad you save your style and functions as 'style' and 'functions' so notepad saves it not as a txt doc but as a php and css files after you can rename and delete the '' quotes. worked perfectly after this.

What do you do when your child theme doesn't exactly look like the parent theme? For example, my font isn't the same on my child theme as my parent theme.

Great information but 1: you need to slow down your presentation, too much information too quickly. I found I had to stop and replay constantly. and 2: how about doing this with one of the Elegant Themes - such as DIVI or EXTRA? You could then provide us a ready to use child theme for DIVI etc....
EDIT: Having said that I later looked at the blog post above - and in that Blog you have all the DIVI examples - so guess thats OK... -

I'm sure what you are very knowledgeable and a lovely young man, and that what you just presented makes perfect sense to you, but PLEASE...slow down! Even at 75% speed you were going too fast. It would help if you explain explain the "HOW" and "why"... and PLEASE don't speak geek. Pretend we know very little about PHP and directory structure within wordpress, ... and finally, Breathe! I'm overwhelmed just listening to all that intense techno babble let alone following along with any success.
