Sony's Ultimate Street Photography Camera

The Sony A6700 is undoubtably Sony’s best APS-C camera to date, and there’s a lot to love about it. I was lucky enough to get my hands on a loan copy to try out for a few weeks and although my experience with it was largely a very positive one, I also noticed a few things about this camera which aren’t immediately obvious and could mean that this isn’t the right choice for you...

I have the a6700 and use it for street, wildlife and travel photography. Together with four lenses taking me from 10 - 200mm (f1.4 - f4) it all fits into a 20l Shimoda Urban Explore. I seriously love the quality, versatility and usability of this camera at this small a package. Also the ever growing amount of very high quality and/or very affordable lenses both from Sony and third parties is just staggering. Currently I can't imagine any other camera offering this combination of features and quality at that affordable a price.

Hi, thanks for your review :). Re. size and weight. Yes, the a6700 camera body size is not much smaller than even full frame cameras from Sony, and other brands. That said, the beauty of ASPC systems is NOT so much the camera body, but the lens size and weight. For example, on the sony 70-350mm lens, that's actually fairly small, it's actual full frame equivalent maximum range is around 525mm! Full frame lenses are enormous compared to APSC lenses. I'm an international traveler so size and weight are everything to me. I can fit the a6700 camera body into a tiny sling backpack (Amazon Basics-a phenomenal bag with way better padding than other brands for a great price) with one strap PLUS the following lenses: sony 70-350mm, Sony 18-135, Sony 11mm, and sigma 30mm. As well the bag holds all other accessories.

i ordered the a6700 since i already have had sony crop lenses for 7+ years now. before that i was on canon DSLR crop as well and i hated that canon lenses are so expensive and a closed system. overall i think the a6700 is a phenomenal camera for all but the most extreme pro users!

I do Jiu Jitsu and I started recording my sparring the AF/subject tracking is definitely something I will use as I and my sparring partner will be moving around a lot.

Honestly I find the bulk and weight difference quite substantial, even between my old A7r IV and the A6700. And the joystick is the first thing I could do without. 🤷

Hello, The problem with the A7iv is the heavier full frame lens that you have to bring along when travelling. Don't you think in this case the A6700 is a better caméra?
Thanks for the video.

0:41 Exactly. So I did not see any reason to get an a6700, I scored a used a7IV body for same price as a6700 with the tiny and bad kit lens.
Shame about no joystick.
2:36 Weird they removed it, but good it has a screen option. But most will likely prefer the joystick as it closer. Atleast on a7iv I could not use the screen that way holding it like this. But this camera might be small enough for it. But people with short finger won't like it.

I got an used a7iv from a dealer for the price of the a6700 with the small crappy lens. Full frame, two sd cards. 👌

Great review. Looking at both this and the A7IV. Which would you recommend if I’m mainly shooting skies and landscapes?

Can you please teach me about the camera settings such as aperture priority or automatic mode, focus mode, focus area, continuous shooting or touch focus when shooting street photography with Sony apsc camera and Sigma lens 30mm1.4? thank you very much

I wonder if a7iv gets more focus modes like car focus, motorcycle, bicycle focus. I've not updated to 2.0 yer. But I went for a7 iv instead of this as its a full frame vs apsc and one vs two sd card slot.

7:28 maybe Kondor Blue cables are good? I see there's a Gerald Undone edition too I purple.
I've not tried them but they are braided. There's even right angle micro Hdmi. Neat.

having Sony a7IV and amount of Sony lenses I bought Fuji xs20 and just wow, the thoughtfulness of the camera and menu, attention to detail, color !, joystick)
The camera is very interesting. But there are also disadvantages, of course, AF is worse than in SONY

I’ve got a Sony a6300, mainly shoot portrait videos for social media but do like to take occasional photos of landscapes and landmarks. Would you recommend this?

Fuji Xs20 or sony a6700 for beginner? Pls advice.. only photography and no video..

Having just a single SD card slot might be also a downside for some. Either you add significantly the write time with RAW+JPEG or you only get one (JPEG is a good starting point reference for editing RAW files). And of course, you will not have a backup if e.g. your SD card gets broken.

It's interesting to see that from this video onwards, the direction of the channel has changed a bit from before this video posted.
