Undergraduate Vs. Graduate School: What's The Big Difference?
Показать описание
What's the difference between undergraduate and graduate school? I discuss the differences between undergraduate and graduate school.
To a large extent undergrad and grad school are very similar in that graduate school is simply just an extension of undergraduate education. There’s also different stages in graduate school. A Masters program is primarily focused on coursework and a PhD program is primarily focused on research. Writing a grad school thesis is one part of this research. Thus, a Masters program is somewhere in between and an undergrad and PhD program.
What are some key differences with graduate school?
1. You will feel a lot more uncertain and challenged. Graduate school is primarily self-directed.
2. Each course is substantially more difficult than an undergraduate course. Imagine a graduate course being equivalent to 2 to 3 undergraduate courses.
3. You will be working in an apprentice type relationship with a professor. Almost all communication with the professor should be related to research. It is not a degree to become a teacher.
4. Grad school is a lot more frustrating than undergraduate school. Many things along the way will ruin results, and you are responsible for figuring out why this is occurring.
5. Graduate school is not a time for partying or an extension of the undergrad lifestyle. Most professors will want you to eventually start acting like a professor.
6. Graduate school is a lot more collaborative than undergraduate programs, but it is also very isolating.
7. In graduate school, everybody is extremely smart but nobody knows what they’re doing. It is easy to understand how to get an A in an undergrad program.
8. Getting good grades does not matter in graduate school. What matters is the research that you do.
9. There will be a stronger focus on theory in a graduate program than in an undergraduate program.
10. Things will take a lot longer and cost you a lot more money than you expect in a graduate program, compared to an undergraduate degree.

David Maslach is a research professor of entrepreneurship, innovation, and business strategy, I discuss topics, such as behavioral science, strategy, innovation, and entrepreneurship, and apply these to my new peer proofreading and editing platform. Topics include the sharing economy, altruism, investing in technology, and bounded rationality. My favorite videos pertain to incentives, goal setting, and learning from failure to drive behaviors such as weight loss, stopping telemarketers, creating novel technologies, and creating new movements.
A new platform where you can earn credits by editing other people's documents. Use these credits to have your own work edited. If you do a good enough job, you can convert these credits to money.
The goal of the platform is to get people to 'pay it forward' and help other people out by creating incentives for people to give back.
