This is called a plunge cut. If you don't have a drill handy this is a great way to cut into the material without cutting through the material where it doesn't need to be cut. What do you think about this trick?

Alot of people like the multitool for this but i think drilling a hole and jig saw best. The plunge dementration defidently handy in a pinch if you have no other means . He could defedintly clean that up. He cut to the inside to be safe.multitools are great tho for coping and hardwood floor repair/replacement tho. Can be tricky to keep a nice clean strait line with them unless you use them alot and have a good blade. Regardless of preference keep on carpentrying it up gentlemen. Now if you excuse me im gonna go demenstrate how not to plunge cut this cut with a table saw 😂

I think this was a good example of a more advanced move with a jigsaw, the plunge cut. I have not attempted it yet, but I might even practice it because it is kind of useful. I wonder how many contractors use the oscillating multitool to do what was traditionally done by the jigsaw, and what kinds of cuts are best accomplished by the jigsaw still.

To the person who said drill a hole: What if you need both pieces to have a perfect line? Plunge cut is the answer. You can make it look nicer though

Jigsaws are good for a few things . But I use my multi tool most of time. My jigsaw mostly stays home now kinda obsolete.

plunge cutting a circular saw or oscillator is faster and easier imo

The owners manual tell u how to do this as well.... at least the milwaukee brand manual does.

I just use a table for the most part. its abit faster i think. But nothing wrong with using a jig saw either.👌

Good skill, but there is the chance of bending or breaking a blade. If you have a drill close, pop through a half inch hole and start from there.

Works in a pinch can bend a blade easy though

I don't think I'd be able to find my jigsaw let alone muster the inclination to use it again, plunge with circ, clean up corners with multi

Some people have never touched a jigsaw and it shows In the comments💀😂
