If you have ever wondered how Roborock's Reactive Object Avoidance systems compare this is the video for you as I put all of Roborock's robot vacuums in a head to head obstacle avoidance challenge on carpet and hard floors. In this video I compare the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra which has Reactive 3D to the S7 Max Ultra with Reactive Tech, to the S7 Max Ultra which also has Reactive Tech to the S7 MaxV which has Reactive AI 2.0 and finally the first Roborock with Object Avoidance the Roborock S6 MaxV with Reactive AI. I did not include the latest release which is the Q8 Max+, but it also has the same Reactive Tech object avoidance as the Q Revo and S7 Max so it should perform the exact same.

➡Products tested in this video:
Roborock S8 Pro Ultra

Roborock QRevo

Roborock S7 Max Ultra

One week into ownership, the Q Revo is truly amazing. Are there more expensive models that might be a little better? Probably, but the Q Revo can hold it's own at a fraction of the price. We bought direct from Roborock for 680-10% military discount, total cost $612. Much to our surprise it successfully avoided a folded blanket we forgot to pick up, so while it's obstacle avoidance might not match models costing twice the price, it's fine if you pick up cords and such. On the plus side, it does not touch, bump, or markup walls or furniture. We even have Christmas decorations out that it successfully avoids. None of our previous Roombas or Deebots could do that. Q Revo for the win for us.

Hi Jamie, First off, many many thanks for the video reviews and comparisons you have made on all of these robot vacuums! I am in the market for my first robot vacuum, and your insights and testing have been invaluable. I'll echo another commenter who said that I think you're giving the Vacuum Wars channel a run for its money with your quality.

I've been zeroing in on a few models: the Q Revo (best price atm = $800), L10s Ultra (best price atm = $700), and the S7 MaxV PLUS (best price atm = $584 for certified refurbished, 2-year warranty). I'm thinking to pull the trigger on the S7 MaxV PLUS since my original target budget was $500-$600. I know that the Q Revo and L10s Ultra may go on sale if I wait around. I also realize that the S7 MaxV Plus doesn't come with the ultra dock, but I'm thinking I can live with manually cleaning the mopping pads. I also have a little one who will be starting to walk soon, and I'm thinking the better obstacle avoidance of the MaxV could be worth it. I'm also wondering if I really should be looking at a lower price range for my first robot vacuum given my needs - since I don't have any pets and my home is on the smaller side, maybe something cheaper would satisfy me.

A few questions: 1) Do you think I would be satisfied with a lower budget robot vacuum, and if so, which models would you recommend I zero in on? 2) Do you think the auto-mop cleaning feature of the Q Revo or L10s Ultra is worth the additional price/wait vs. getting the S7 MaxV Plus now? 3) How much longer would the S7 MaxV (or Q Revo and L10s Ultra) last compared to a budget pick - in other words, is it worth the higher cost in terms of potential longevity?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Very nice review! It just confirms my recent decision to go with the s7 maxV plus over other RR models. My only suggestion is that I would like the obstacle recognition system be able to recognize when an obstacle previously marked has moved during the same session and now it’s ok to clean that spot that was marked to avoid. It’s hard to keep my dogs in one area during a cleaning session and I frequently end up with missed spots because the dogs moved after being detected and that place was marked to avoid.

Interesting to see! So far my Q Revo has been very good about avoiding socks and shoes here, but I'm wondering if that is because our socks and shoes aren't completely black. Maybe due to such a dark color it cannot sense them as well? Either way, good comparison!

I really hope the P10 Pro will be available in Europe soon and will perform the same as S7 MaxV. My S7 MaxV Ultra died recently and I wanted to replace it with some newer model, but having kids and seeing the poor peformance of obstacle avoidance in other models, I will either have to wait for the P10 Pro or get another S7 MaxV Ultra. The P10 Pro seems like a perfect match for me, having mostly hard vinyl floors, with its warm water spinning roller mopping. Or is there any other alternative?

The P10 Pro in China has a watered down version of the S7 MaxVs Object Avoidance which has RGB cameras but no crossed lasers.

Hi Jamie,
Great video. I am really enjoying your reviews. Very detailed and thorough, and always with some very good points. Is there a review in the pipeline for the Dreame L20 - almost had my mind set on the Q Revo but the poor obstacle avoidance is a bit of a problem. Seems like Dreame L20 has that down quite well and with the rotating mops I would really like to see you take it through its paces.

While Roborock still makes some class leading models, they really need to step up their game in some areas:

- Laser obstacle avoidance does not work well on any model (Q Revo, S7 Max UItra, S8 Pro Ultra)
- There are too many different models with only small changes
- Naming of models is completely confusing. S7 Max? MaxV? Ultra? Pro Ultra? Q7? Q7 Plus? S7 Maxv Plus? Q Revo? What's going on.
- The S8 Pro Ultra is overpriced. The double rollers are nice, but the usecase is scarce. I returned mine, a much cheaper Q Revo or S7 Max Ultra will perform 95% for 40% less €.
- Spare parts are all over the place: dust bags for the S7 Max Ultra and S7 Plus have a different closing system, the Q Revo also has weird bigger dust bags. Mops the same, 2 rotating mops or 1 big vibrating mop. Choose 1 system and stick to this.
- New useful software features are barely introduced. For example, when my S7 Max Ultra vacuums at night during DND hours, he won't empty the dustbag in the dock to prevent noise. The next day however it doesn't empty itself automatically. I have to not forget to run it manually. A feature for this has been requested a million times, but Roborock refuses to add really smart features to their software.

I really love their Robots and the app, but their business strategy is to flood the market with too many models and different parts, making it hard to make a decision or understand what's going on. Dreame is starting to release some very interesting models with loads of features, the L10S Ultra offers much more value than most high-end Roborocks. If Dreame starts investing more in their software and Q&A department they can give Roborock a run for their money.

Another great video, Jamie! Hard to top the S7 MaxV Ultra with dryer module and water fill kit!!! Though SwitchBot's upcoming s10 looks to be raising the bar!

Great comparison, I'm wondering if the S7 MaxV has been discontinued, it no longer shows up on the "store" page of Roborock's web site. The Q8 Max Plus looks interesting, I'm really thinking of getting the Roborock Q Revo, I can get it for $699 and for what it does that sounds excellent. I don't have any pets and I don't leave cords on the floor so I don't really need the object avoidance and I actually disable it on the bots I have that have this feature. There are a few new robots out that look really nice. The Eufy X8 Pro sounds like a great self empty robot and the new Ecovacs X2 sounds amazing. Irobot also has their new combo J9 but they are still behind the times. They are still using VSLAM instead of Lidar, for mapping, Lidar is better by far. The dock fills the tank on the robot but it still does not clean the mop pads or dry them, and the mop pad does not vibrate or spin.

Thanks for this video Jamie. I had an S8 Pro Ultra on order, but after seeing your video I cancelled and got an S7 MaxV instead. Although I'm only 24 hours in, I'm already glad I made that decision. My main concern in changing was whether it would be good enough to pick up pet hair from carpet (coming from a Roomba S9+ which did an excellent job at this), compared to the higher suction and dual rollers of the S8, but it seems to be doing the job so far and the object avoidance finally means I don't have to patrol the house beforehand.

Anything with a camera and/or dToF sensors. Lidar is very likely not good enough alone to actively avoid most obstacles. Deebot N10 Max+ is under $200 in like new refurbished condition and is great at obstacle avoidance with dToF sensors and lidar.

Hi, I was wondering if the obstacle avoidance of the Q8 Max is worth the 110 euro difference with the Q5 Pro. Since robots are otherwise the same.

Does the Q8 has cameras in it?
Thank you

Thank you Jamie. I don't understand how is S8 Pro Ultra worse than S7 MaxV if it's using additions like cameras etc? It seems like overall the S7 MaxV Ultra is the better choice (going to get one this week probably).
