The reason why it sounds like "gossip" to you is because the church is so litigious and secretive. They won't admit what "higher power" they worship. They won't admit to the role of Xenu in their practices. For a "religion" they are incredibly closed, so you get more speculation than fact. I've watched the South Park Ep., listened to countless interviews and still don't know what the hell it's all about.

I am NOT a Scientologist. Maybe the reason they do this process is to INCREASE Integrity in the person so they "the person" are impeccable with their self honesty. The above show sounds like high kids talking gossip about people who are not there to answer. We live in in a society where self honesty has vanished and people have led lives of deciet and hide their dishonesty.

The confession style process can cause people to release negative past mistakes Its used in a lot of self help progams.
