"So who do you think will win the election this year?"
"It depends. Which candidate is a descendant of King John of England?"

Fun Fact: The girl who discovered that 42 of the 43 presidents were all linked to King John Lackland of England (who was known for signing the Magna Carta in 1215. It was the first document to put into writing the principle that the king & his government was not above the law, ) but she also discovered that she is the 18th cousin to President Obama. Genealogy really is a rabbit hole. It can become addictive bc it's just so fascinating. (If you're interested in your family history that is.) 😊

If history doesn't repeat itself, it often rhymes

I have a third or fourth cousin named Burl Ives who was the narrator “Sam the Snowman” in Rudolph the red nose reindeer. He’s not a president or a king but it’s still pretty cool.

It makes sense with Martin Van Buren. His family is Dutch. He is the only president to speak English as a second language. Despite being born in the US, his family spoke primarily Dutch.

Tom Hanks is distantly related to Lincoln. Lincoln's bio mom was Nancy Hanks and Tom is a descendant of one of her brothers. So a first cousin several times removed.

In my old neighborhood, we had a descendant of Pancho Villa. His last living son at the time, Ernesto Nava Villa. He's passed away back in 09, but it was a really cool feeling to know that we had a descendant of a great revolutionary of Mexico.

I was once engaged to Robert (Bob) McKinley whom was a descendant of President McKinley. Bob was a punk rocker from the 70's +, the lead singer of "Blood Spasm, " & one hell of a model American! May Bob Spasm rest in peace. ❤

I find it fascinating that generations can go by, and some of the family members of long dead relatives, famous or not, can have such a physical similarity to those who came long before. My grandson looks remarkably like his maternal great-grandfather. His great-grandfather was a full Italian man born in 1921, yet my grandson, born in 2005, looks practically identical in a photo taken when my FIL was in his early 20s. With the combination of nationalities combined during these years, it's amazing that he looks like anyone, but he's his great-grandfather's clone! Love videos like this!

Martin Van Buren was also the only American president to not be English or descendant of the English, he was Dutch, and spoke English as his second language.

Yep. I'm a close cousin to the Wright Brothers. Appropriately, I'm a complete airhead.

I'm related to Johnny Cash. Not closely, Kellye Cash Sheppard (his grand-niece, who was also Miss America) is like my second cousin twice removed or something. But I met her a few times and her husband was one of my teachers, and I went to school with her daughter. That's the closet tie to fame I have so I tell everyone about it 😂 My mother tried to find out genealogy once and found our ancestors were horse thieves in France.
