I got my G2's after you recommended them and I've never been happier with the sound of my drums! Thank you!

@tyfaruque I recommend finding a rim and getting some tension rods. Do a Google search on your rim type and you can find them. Also, check out the Gibraltar website as they make parts that work for all drum-sets.

@linkg13 You can try the Evans Onyx. Those will have a faster decay and less resonance. I'd also recommend some basic muffling using Moon Gel.

@Villex93 It will change the way the drum resonates. It also depends on the way the top head is tuned and the type of drums. I highly recommend just tuning it up and down and finding a sound that you like.

@SmileysRevenge100 Yah listening back I hear that on the recording but never heard that when I was recording. Since I filmed this I've tweaked them even more which is something you always have to do. Usually I make minor adjustments every time I sit down at the kit.

@feche174580 It depends on how much I play. Now I change them every 4 - 8 weeks. I change the reso heads every 3rd time.

YES! Great video! I just put Evans Onyx heads on my 70's Ludwig Vistalite set and I'm 100% satisfied with the sound and feel. I also tune to how I want them to sound as opposed to a specific note or key.

Rock On!

getting your drums "in tune" CAn be one of the most frustrating, challenging...yet rewarding part of being a drummer...I found that it took me so long just to be an average drum tuner because I was being lazy...you have to build the confidennce to believe YOU know what sound you are looking for...great video

@remurdereht Depends on how they're mic'd the sound may change as it's being processed. In this video, we just used overhead mics to give you a better indicator of exactly what I'm doing.

Nice tutorial again...You're an Evens Heads endorsed drummer, I'm and Remo Heads endorsed drummer. I use Remo Emperor Ebony as my heads, looks great and sounds And yes a 14" and/or 16" hanging floor tom has a slide better sustain then a "real" floor tom...!!

@remurdereht I am lucky to be endorsed so I get to change them more often. Usually every 4 - 8 weeks.

@stix44kix Thats simply reverberation. Open spaces let the sound waves from the kick dissapate outwards. If youre in a small room its a no brainer that youre gonna get soundwaves affecting other skins... You could try some baffle (foam soundproofing in front of the kick to break up some of those soundwaves) or add a little tape to your bottom tom head to reduce ring. Acoustic kits require tweaking in the room it is situated. Impossible to offer a solid answer without being there trying stuff.

I discovered the drumlessoncom videos today and really like them. I think this method for drum tuning only works properly if you have good hardware and shells that aren't out of shape. The hardware of the drum kit in my home studio doesn't respond quite as nicely, which is due to the age of the kit. Putting the drum heads on properly in the first place is certainly important and getting it mostly right first time so you don't end up stretching one side of the head out of shape with the other.

@tererechipa Sure, it's on the list bro.

Another great idea Jared, is when you were talking about seating the head, tune them high up, and i leave them for a little while, and then come back and finish the fine tuning.

I am thinking of buying an acoustic after many years of not using one (I use a roland e-kit at the moment).. and I did some research - The Sonor 3007 (made in China) Maple kit sounded pretty fine and is around the same cost (give or take a little) as the Ludwig element. I'd recommend the Sonor IMHO... great reviews.
