So did the alawites (nusairis) change their religion? It seems the elders have secretive knowledge that is not widespread to outsiders or even laypeople of their faith. Apparently Shias did not consider alawis Muslims until relatively recently the twelve Shias had famous imams give fatwa considering alawis muslims. From what I’ve learned about the alawi beliefs, many are far outside of mainstream Islam; for example ideas of reincarnation.

I want to learn about Alawi and I only found Let’s Talk Religion and this video. I found some books but they are not very easy for beginners. I have read Tanakh, Quran, and Al Ghazali’s commentary on the verse of the light, but still know very little bout Alawite. I read Henry Corbin’s book, the history of Islamic philosophy, and I still don’t know about the Alawite tradition

What's the correlation between Alawites and Alevis? The Turkic Alevis tend to be much more esoteric whereby many don't consider themselves Muslim. Are not the Alawites, Alevis, Druze, Shabaks, and Yezidis ultimately just Gnostics albeit with an Islamic twist?
