Dang 4 wins since July, Fritz is definitely Zverev's kryptonite

Fritz has been playing unbelievable, he’s moving much better, his backhand has improved a lot, and he looks mentally strong and so locked in every point now

Common thread between multiple grandslam winners playing currently-Djokovic, Sinner and Alcaraz, they all have that unrivaled killer instinct. When they smell blood, they go on the offense and win the big points.

Zverev, on the other hand, has the game to match the above 3, but the total lack of killer instinct. Today's game was a prime example.

Fritz played solid, hung in there, but Zverev was better, the stats prove it, except on the critical points -- not attacking the Fritz second serve, passively put the ball in the center of the court on big points...you can't win the Grand slams with that approach.

Every time Fritz beats a top ten player, it’s always “the other player’s fault”. Fritz never gets credit for just playing BETTER than his opponent. It’s always some excuse for why “other player” failed. But this argument is getting harder and harder to buy given how consistent Fritz is against “other player”. Congratulations Taylor! 👏🍾

Fritz has improved dramatically in the last year. His game shows that he deserves to be in the top 5 in the world now. Zverev has also improved and played really well this year. But between the two, I think Sinner would beat either in his current form, but will find it easier to beat Fritz tomorrow. Of course I’m assuming Sinner will quickly dispose of Ruud. I may be underestimating Ruud, but this tournament is really the first time this year since clay court season, that he has shone.

That down 40 love hold with Fritz during the 3rd set was probably where the momentum shifted and added to the doubts in the back of Zverev's mind. Fritz had a similar moment against Jack Draper at the olympics while being down 40 love on his own serve which completely turned the tide of that match too. High quality match overall by both players.

both of these guys look like people who have an ample solid tennis game, which also looks vulnerable and has holes, isn't 'a complete game.' which can't be said about the players who actually win slams. i watch those players and even when they lose the point, their mode and confidence looks like a fortress.
