I literally looked up the vtc repair procedure ONCE. Google, you do not need to continually recommend this to me. Lol

My (Mk8) 1.8 2009 Civic makes that sound, mechanic said it's just an old starter motor sound. However, I'd like to add (from previous research) that it may be cold engine start related.

Bit late, but to me it seems like it might be a starter motor, or something oil pressure related

this sounds like the timing chain tensioner more than anything, happened on my 13 accord

My 2009 honda fit does this. What is it and how much do you think to have it fixed thanks

Consider adding more oil. Check my "Low Oil" video out on my 2.4L 4 cylinder 2013 Accord. It makes a similar noise when low on oil. When REALLY low, like in my video, it sounds even worse! Changing the VTC actuator can be a temporary fix, but from what I've been reading, it can start making noises again in 1 year or less, so that is an expensive repair ($800-$1, 200) for it to go bad again so soon. Hope it helps! Glad YouTube gives us a community to talk so that we can all save money and learn!
