Ben Carson Tries To Clarify Comment Suggesting Slaves Came To U.S. As Immigrants

On Monday night, hours after Dr. Ben Carson made comments suggesting slaves came to America as immigrants, he took to Facebook to try to clarify what he said. Carson, a brain surgeon and the head of Department of Housing and Urban Development was addressing employees at the government department when he made the controversial remarks. HUD spokesman Brian Sullivan tried to explain Carson's remarks by saying, "Nobody here believes he was equating voluntary immigration with involuntary servitude." #InsideEdition

Carson said "there were other immigrants who came here in the bottom of slave ships.." He was talking about the topic immigrants and said there were immigrants that came on the same ships as the slaves. He never called slaves immigrants. Although by the actual definition of immigrant one could call slaves immigrants. (immigrant-a person who comes to live permanently in a foreign country.
