Think about it. If your phone swiped away apps for you, even when it was on accident, it'd get annoying. If you weren't supposed to close the apps, why have the ability.
iirc the phone remembers or optimise apps after opening and will stop apps from doing background activities like notifs after not using for prolonged periods

Some people don't want their apps refreshed after leaving them, thats the only reason it exists. Swiping out the apps saves memory, which saves battery.

Well maybe you have something saved there so it keeps it open until you swipe it. Or maybe you need to go between two apps. In no world would it automatically close the apps as soon as you leave them. If you're actually done, then close it.

Being an iPhone app developer I can confirm this. Once you minimize the app, your app goes to deep sleep and it wont use the battery.

There are certain conditions like location usage, that can turn ON parts of the app but you will be indicated of that on status bar.

Dont worry about apps using battery in the background
