When Dissidia Arcade was announced in 2015, it led to a lot of excitement within the community. From a visual perspective, it looked fantastic and the prospect of Dissidia arriving on the PS4 was rather alluring.

When Dissidia NT was announced at E3 2017, everyone was excited to learn more... but it became clear that the experience wasn't quite what was expected. And after NT launched and Square Enix attempted to salvage things, not much improved.

Now, two years after its release, Square Enix has decided to cease updates for Arcade and NT and it's left a lot of doubt about the future of the franchise.

All they had to do was give Duodecim gameplay and story with console graphics. 3v3 should have been an option, not a requirement.

"Look, nobody plays Final Fantasy for the story, so let's just drop that and make it a cross between Devil May Cry and Ace Combat 5." - A now unemployed man in Japan.

Sad. Really sad. I'd count the Dissidia Duodecim as one of my favourite games of all time. It's packed with content, equipment, characters, stories, unlockables, different modes, different ways to fight, and it all felt so customizable and developed. None of what I loved was in NT, and that broke my heart. There's never been a game with so much potential that was squandered so heavily.

We just want duodecim gameplay with NT graphic. As simple as

All I wanted was Duodecim with more characters and better graphics. As in a story, and not forced online 3X3.

I bought it and left off in less than a month.

Hey, psst, Square Enix. Want to know a real business move to salvage this wreck? Take the models from this game, the code from Duodecim and make a remaster.

The best thing that came out of this was Opera Omnia, the turn-based RPG Raid Shadow Legends wishes it was.

As a moderator of the subreddit and someone who is been playing in arcades since its release, thank you for this video.
Most discussions of the topic tend to derail towards people just being more interested in past entires, but you have tackled the real issues this game faced, essentially poor decisions and console port support.
NT was pretty much made as an after thought as the team wanted to sell their cake and eat it too, and it felt, as it was born one year later than they originally promised the japanese audience. In Japan too there was a lot of frustration regarding this release, which ultimately ended up translating in arcades too.

Dissidia NT had a lot of potential. But being an "Arcade game" was kinda what killed it in terms of home consoles viability. Duodecim had a lot of side content and customization, which made the replay value gigantic.
As much as the idea of a 3v3 Dissidia sounds good, it was really poorly implemented in practice. Lots of way to cheese. Didn't play good, didn't feel good.

It had such a perfect EN voice cast for it's characters that it made cutscenes so enjoyable to watch!
But I'm happy it lived as long as it did to at least to cover Shadowbringers content and giving Y'shtola her third look. I'm really happy they added Y'shtola~

Dissidia NT was laziness to the extreme.
No story mode
No local co-op
No RPG mode
Square-Enix got what they deserve by releasing a low effort cash grab for a well-known game people wanted on consoles.

I actually Pre-Ordered this on PS4, and was pretty excited for it.. Until they released a playable demo. After downloading and playing it, i cancelled my order the next day, and transferred the money to Dark Souls 3 instead.

Its sad that two psp games were better than a ps4 game.

Such wasted potential of a game that could've been good.😞

I don't understand why they didn't just adapt the OG Dissidia into a bigger console and made the 3v3 battle system for arcades only. It would've been nice to see the past cycles prior to the first two games, this game had so much potential and there were so many characters from the series that i wanted to be apart of this game, Vincent, Locke, Snow, Seymour. This is such a missed opportunity, i hope they make a game similar to it in the future but this time even better.

This is what happens when you only "give" players the bare minimum and charge obscene amounts for any and all "extras". I tried it out and was beyond underwhelmed. I didn't even put an hour of game play in before I walked away. I just love it when studios fix what isn't broke.

My favorite part of the game was the unlockable character voice clips. I can finally have Garland say, “I, Garland, will knock you all down!”

Was hoping the game would go on long enough to get Zack Fair as DLC :(
I mainly got the game just to see and play as the characters in a new graphic fidelity since the PSP ones. I accepted to the 3v3 style but was let down by the lack on single player content. I appreciate the amount we got but still felt lacking as the game sat on my shelf after completing story mode and never felt the need to pick it up again unlike the PSP games.

Let's be honest here, they made the game into a 3v3 to try and outdo the arcade king that is Gundam VS, who's a 2v2 arena battler. However, they failed to capture the sense of speed and control that Gundam has, instead ending up as a cluttered mess that ultimately boiled down to bad character gimmicks.
