Oh, here we go again. Kubrick did not write any treatment of the story and there were not and never would have been two different versions of the film. Ian Watson wrote the screen story and if Kubrick had decided to shoot the film, he would have been using the same exact screen story that Spielberg used because THAT is the story that Ian Watson penned over months of working with Kubrick, and the version that Kubrick approved. The main differences besides the filming style and probably some dialogue, would have been The Flesh Fair and the segue of 2000 years at the bottom of the ocean, because those are what Spielberg changed. Everything else is in Ian Watson's screen story. Gigolo Joe would have still been there. Dr Know would have still been there. Robin Williams did his voice overs while Kubrick still had the project, so Dr Know would ahve still been the same. The advanced Mecha at the end (NOT aliens) would have still been there, and the reanimated Monica would have still been there for the reunion because that's is the story. Did you happen to notice that Ben Kingsley narrates the opening and also voices the Super-Mecha at the end? That's because he is playing the same character. The robot at the end is telling the story of the first of their kind; the first sentient A.I. To make is even more clear he opens with "Those were the days"... Those WERE the days.... as in past tense. Do yourself a favor and google "Plumbing Stanley Kubrick" by Ian Watson. It's his memoir of working on A.I. with Kubrick and it's still online and a rich trove of information. And pardon my blatant self-promotion but "Facts And Fairy Tales: Setting The Record Straight On A.I." clears up some misconception too. It's on youtube.
