I’m sicilian, and I’m going to reveal you what is the meaning of the holy card of Santa Rosalia, shown in the trailer:

It’s called “Punciuta” (it means to puncture in sicilian slang).

The sting ritual still happens like this: the person who wants to join the family is led into a room in the presence of all the members of the local Family in a meeting. One of the key moments, from which the ceremony takes its name, is the pricking of the index finger of the hand (the one the initiate uses to shoot) with a bitter orange thorn or, depending on the mafia clan, with a special gold pin.
The blood that comes out is used to smear a holy card which is then set on fire while the new affiliate holds it in his hands and pronounces a solemn oath: "I swear to be faithful to Cosa Nostra. May my flesh burn like this holy card if I do not keep my oath".

Keep in mind that, this kind of things, really happens. They are going to tell the story of Mafia from It’s origins, witch is set in my native land, and using any possible reference to real facts and customs.

It will be a masterpiece for sure.

Fun fact: when I was young (I’m 34 now), I visited the cave of Santa Rosalia, located in Santo Stefano Quisquina (Agrigento) where I was born.
