#protoshield #arduino #prototyping #prototype board - How do you use an Arduino Proto Shield? What can you do with an Arduino prototyping shield? Why would you use a premade prototyping shield or prototype board? In this video I will share what I learned about what to look for and how to find it.
Some topics include: Why I wanted to use a protoshield, the difference between the Elegoo and Arduino ProtoShield, what to look for in a prototyping shield and more.

If you are just starting out with Arduino, physical computing or hobby electronics you may be considering purchasing or using a prototyping shield. As I am progressing in my Arduino and electronics education, I am considering the possibility of using a protoboard / protoshield. There aren't many videos that explain what the official Arduino Proto Shield can do or how to use one. As I researched this prototyping shield topic, I realized that it may be helpful to explain some finer details that some more advanced tutorials may skip over.

I bought an official Arduino Proto Shield, Rev 3, Uno Size (TSX00083) from the official Arduino store. I also have Elegoo and Keyestudio prototyping shields. Sparkfun, Adafruit and many other maker companies sell prototyping shields and each one is designed differently. In this video I will try and share what I learned about what to look for and how to find it.

I need to thank you for this video, I use a protoshield for my project and it's working great thanks to you 😊

Thanks for the vid. You seem to be the only person that actually explains how these shields can be used rather than the other hundreds of tutorials and vids that just show how to assemble the pins and LEDs and then give no info as to what you might want it for.

Also, is it pronounced “ele-goo” or “e-Lego”. I always thought it was the later, with the “o” being the infinity symbol

I do appreciate that you tried you explain the way to use these shields. But it would have been great to show the viewer how it all actually works by doing a simple case study / example project. Because to be honest, at the end of the video I came out with many more questions about how to actually best use these things. Especially with the Elegoo shield

Check out AliExpress for that Uno Proto Shield. I purchased 10 of them fully assembled for just over 10 dollars. Checked today and you can still find deals like 10 for 12 dollars. I have used to make my own midi shields, audio out shields, ATtiny programming shields, trigger shields with 555, 4071,4020,4040.4060, multi voltmeter tester and various testing boards. You can google arduino shields and make them yourself instead of buying. You can google arduino shields and make what you find in the search results yourself instead of buying. Best kept secret as I have only found 2 videos where people actually show a finished project .I have used both types you showed . I actually prefer the Elegoo because I can transfer from the bread board exactly like I built on the breadboard without having to totally redesign the circuit which I spent time testing on the breadboard. Also the extra 5v and GND are invaluable. There are many work arounds for the female headers.

you could remove the sockets and pin headers and replace them with stacking headers, then the elegoo one would resemble more the other one, with the same free solder holes for accessing the pins, and you could stack other shields.
