I love this idea. In a survival situation, minimizing risk is important. Any time you are using a knife, you are increasing risk, making shavings like this keeps you from using your knife. Great idea.

You could also use regular Pencils for this the shaving should bien just as well if not more
Thats why i pack them

Also a battery powered Pencil sharpener will turn it into powder it burns pretty easy
I pack some as well in ziplocks

My late father would have loved these little outdoors could have added a few too. I miss him much. He taught me a lot about hunting, fishing and doing it legal. He was not fond of people that took short cuts where Killin deer was concerned.
