The key for me learning double thumb was mainly finding the right thumb stiffness, but also using my wrist to move my thumb rather than moving my elbow or whole arm up and down. Try imagining there’s a spring in your thumb, so when you pull your thumb up the string pulls the “spring” tight until your thumb slips off and “snaps” back into place! Also make sure you’re not moving your thumb perfectly straight up, move it up and at a slight angle away from the BEHS. Otherwise you’ll get caught under the string and won’t be able to “slip” effectively. Then just experiment until you find the right “spring” tension!

I got the sheet music for classical thump by Victor Wooten years ago and slowly worked it up. It’s the perfect etude for learning double thumb technique.

That’s kind of like Tosin Abasi (Animals as leaders) with his thumping on the 8 string guitar. If you don’t know, look him up but I’d be surprised at those who don’t know and play guitar or bass the guy is hard to ignore.
