There’s not one method to learn a language. Some approaches will appeal to you more than others. Memory and learning processes may be the same for all (forget “learning styles”) but how we engage will depend on our aptitudes, personalities, interests and circumstances.

For all the variety on the surface, though, there are underlying similarities to every language learning success story.

In this talk, I’ll take a step back to identify four principles that you can apply to decide what’s going to work for you. There will then be specific, practical suggestions to help ensure that we all keep on track as effectively as possible, wherever – and whoever – we are.

This is a FANTASTIC video. I so wish I had had this when I first started language learning. My first advice to people is that: Language learning is about DISCIPLINE. It doesn't come easy, and it doesn't come fast. You HAVE to have the discipline to work at it, daily if you want to advance the fastest, and you have to LOVE it. Other than that, there's no other way.
