This song was the one where Tyler dips his hands in black paint.
It was one of my favorite live moments

This is one of my favorites. I do believe that Tyler is referring to himself as the message man. He is sending messages out through music and lyrics. I think it’s sort of a be careful because there’s more than meets the eye with him. He has more going on in his brain than we probably want to know, “please use discretion when you’re messaging with the message man. These lyrics aren’t for everyone. Only few will understand.” And it’s so true! The clique is such a unique family that is supportive and understanding of the pain and hardships of life. I love these reactions Tom! I’m 14 months away from my NP in behavioral health! I tell people to check you out all the time! Much love to you and your family!!

I think the song title should have a comma in it "message, man" - please use discretion when you're messing with the message of my music - when I'm talking about suicide I'm not promoting it - I'm bringing awareness - he got some backlash from some people who thought the music was promoting suicide

This was the song where he “summoned Blurryface “ with the black paint. It’s kinda mesmerizing so I get not remembering all the songs :)

His people go way beyond his fan base.. his people are the population of Dema (the fictional city referenced in several of their songs) where Nico and the niners (the bishops) are trying to keep the population in check (each bishop represents one of life's deepest fears and Nico is the leader aka the sum of all fears) and the population of Dema is every single person affected by one of those base 9 fears.. there is an underlying theme through out that paints a picture of all this for you if you actually listen to all their albums. Blurryface is a representation of the part of you that succumbs to those fears. He's the connection between the person and the place. Nico and his bishops put the fear out there in peoples hearts and minds creating the seed that spawns your blurryface who then takes you (mentally and emotionally) to Dema where you live under that fear and give potential for the rest of the bishops to get their hold on you. Anyone who struggles with mental health or fear is his people they just may not know it yet.

Half of the reason I love twenty one pilots is the community of the fans. You all are amazing!

I don't know if you have listened to Aurora or Sleeping at Last but I think they'd be a good to react to. Specifically Aurora: Through the Eyes of a Child, Lucky, and Not Anybody Knows and Sleeping at Last: 1-8 the personality type songs, Saturn, You're Enough, and Light.

message man is where Tyler dips his hand into the bowl of black paint and performs the possession ritual

I feel this song kinda helps explain why the alternative scene might seem gate-keep-y to outsiders. We've been there in the early 2000s when alternative music was in the mainstream and we seem to get there again now where so many people listen to bands and go to their shows just because they're the cool new thing at the moment. And the fans who have been there from the beginning and connect to the message and the way of life get pushed to the side because they can't afford or don't want to go to big arena shows and just get drowned online by the sheer amount of people talking about the band. They also lose the sense of belonging because where when a band is still small if you see someone with a shirt from that band or talking about that band online you usually connect quite quickly because you both connect to the lyrics, both come from the same scene. But when bands get big and break out of the scene people listen to the band for different reasons sometimes without paying attention to the lyrics at all, sometimes interpreting them in a very different way. The scene is full of people who didn't feel like they fit in but in the scene they found a place where they could be themselves. So when all the people who were judging them for being who they are then come into that safe place they found that place doesn't feel so safe anymore

Idk if Fairly Local or Message man is my favorite off the BF album.

It might just be my theory, but I think Neon Gravestones is connected to MM.
