If you’ve ever played Duck Hunt or any of the other NES games that used the NES Zapper gun, you probably at one point or another wondered how the game actually knows where on the TV you are aiming the gun when you pulled the trigger. It turns out, the method for accomplishing this is incredibly simple, as is the gun itself.

I once wrote a short program that could do something similar, with detecting a laser pointer on a screen with targets, but with the technology today, it is a much simpler task.

Origonal Duck Hunt by Nintendo was an electro mechanical game projecting an animated duck on a wall of your house. There was also an arcade video game of Duck Hunt before the NES one as well...

I found out 40 yrs ago when someone pointed the gun at a flashlight to hit every target without pointing at the TV. Must've have been an older system.
