John meets with his publicity officer and he explains his apology tour.

From Emmy Award-winning executive producer and creator Seth MacFarlane (FAMILY GUY, “Ted,” “Cosmos: A SpaceTime Odyssey”), THE ORVILLE is a live-action, one-hour space adventure series set 400 years in the future that follows The Orville, a mid-level exploratory spaceship. Its crew, both human and alien, face the wonders and dangers of outer space, while also dealing with the familiar, often humorous problems of everyday life. The ensemble series stars MacFarlane as the ship’s Commanding Officer, Ed Mercer, and Adrianne Palicki (“Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.,” “Friday Night Lights”) as his ex-wife, Kelly Grayson, who’s assigned as his First Officer. Additional cast members include Penny Johnson Jerald as Dr. Claire Finn (“24,” “The Larry Sanders Show”), Scott Grimes as Gordon Malloy (“ER,” “Justified”), Peter Macon as Bortus (“Shameless,” “Bosch”), Halston Sage as Alara Kitan (“Neighbors,” “Goosebumps”), J. Lee as John LaMarr (FAMILY GUY, “The Cleveland Show”), Mark Jackson as Isaac (“That Royal Today”) and Chad L. Coleman as Klyden (“The Walking Dead,” “The Wire”). The Orville has been renewed for a second season.

I love this episode because it’s such a wild thought experiment. An unstructured absolute democracy. It’s a system where the law is always 100% in sync with contemporary majoritarian views of right and wrong.

Now obviously those of us who are used to laws written by legislatures and independent judiciaries that enforce the law in a predictable if not always fair manner find this idea crazy but billions of people live under systems where the law is neither enforced fairly or predictably as written and the government has little or no democratic legitimacy. The Chinese constitution guarantees religious freedom but even quoting it publicly will get you sent to prison.

This show is truly great and successfully took up the Star Trek mantel. This is what the new Star Trek shows should have been like. The Orville has great episodes with awesome social commentary (like this episode). I’m not sure if the show has been cancelled but I WANT MORE EPISODES!!!!

Ed knew enough about the planet's monetary system, clothing attire, etc. but nothing about their legal / judicial system. You know in case they should run into trouble. Also out of all the crew members there why send one that is going to stick out like the security girl.
