There is a lot more information about carbon fiber and its process. So fellow car experts, feel free to share what you know below! 🏎️💨 (best comments will get liked 😊)

The carbon fiber is not an option on the Koenigsegg, it is standart. The option is no paint.

The 400k option on the jesko isn't to add carbon, it's to remove the paint and to remove the laqure finish

Carbon fiber is SOMEWHAT stronger than steel. It is like wood, it has fibers, so while it is very hard to break across the fibers, you can more easily crack it along the fibers. But for body panels you don't need a lot of strength so it's good

Carbon fiber is a anisotropic material, its strength depends on the orientation of fibers. It could be strong one direction, yet easily breakable the other.

Yeah that's the reason why they used it in ocean gate submarine. Carbon fibre is strong but brittle, it breaks even in slight change of pressure, i'd rather stick to titanium alloys on cars.

Stronger than steel but if bent the wrong way, brittle as glass

Sadly, it is no more a wonder material than any other thing you can think of. It simply has some beneficial and some detrimental properties as a material

Carbon fiber is stock for all Koenigseggs. It cost more to have it exposed or raw because they have to line up the weave, made it symmetrical across every panel with different weave size

Carbon fiber is much stronger in tension than compression so the clip where it’s being compressed isn’t really what it’s meant for.

Also carbon fiber doesn’t have a fatigue limit meaning if it’s cycled through intense conditions enough it will not be strong anymore. Steel does have a fatigue limit so once it’s reached that limit it cannot get any weaker.

And carbon fiber can’t be recycled so it’s only really used when necessary.

Saying carbon fiber is stronger than steel is a bit of a stretch. Yes, if you were to compress it would be stronger than steel but if you were to break it would with the carbon fiber lining or grain it would be way easier

Fun fact about carbon fiber: it's the same material that Airbus uses to build it's planes, you will only see it on newer models, not in old ones.

Carbon fiber can also withstand very intense heat coming from the engine

This is used in modern composite armors on tanks

Steel has a high strength to density ratio vs. carbon fiber, which has a high strength to weight ratio

also used on the 787 Dreamliner and A350
