As a counselor in a men's treatment program. I am very passionate about prison reform and keeping people in the free world with mental health disorders. Most substance abusers have comorbidities. Last I heard after 4 years of being institutionalized most will leave prison with PTSD. They have had to learn to SURVIVE to live in prison. When I saw what they were doing taking civilians in a max prison. I thought, "WOW! WHAT ARE THESE PEOPLE THINKING!" I wasn't sure if I could watch it. I COULD NOT TAKE MY EYES OFF IT!! I was so moved. Times I cried with them. There success rate is the icing. Something has to change. I always hope when my guys leave & succeed that they dedicate some time to help their brother's and sisters still in the system need to leave with a chance. A MUST WATCH!!

The MKP does powerful, transformative work. Taking the model into the prisons is social justice at the front lines. This is rehabilitation. I want to staff these one day! As the great Dr. Gabor Maté reminds us, the questions is not, "Why did you do it?", but rather, "What happened to you?".

Remember watching this on bbc four late one night. It was absolutely stunning. So raw and true to the depiction of the human spirit of each person and very powerful

Just saw this last night...powerful, very relatable. Through EMDR I've done a similar descent/journey to bring something back. It makes me think...in a different set of circumstances, without the woods to hide in, without the physical space the hide from abusive family members, maybe I'd be in here alongside these men.

The most i felt sorry for was the young man who had a son and who was alone and couldn't see any of his family including his son and wanted to kill himself. That was a sad moment.
