What I like abut these "back to basics" tips is that they help us novices understand how things work. Thanks Paul!

I used this tip today to tune up a 100 yr old Disston backsaw. I am amazed how well it works! A couple of strokes with a file a few weeks ago made a big difference but the half hour spent with a little hammer and a filed screw really made the saw sing.
It cuts like butter now!
thanks, Paul.

I have a saw set tool but never liked it. In addition my hands tire from the squeezing. So....I tried your "screw" method and was totally surprised how consistently fast and well it set the teeth on my panel saw. Simply unbelievable!! Rips a 2x4 like cutting through butter. Paul... You have no idea how much I and everyone else appreciates all you share with us. Thank you.

Love the shortness of the video. When I share it, more people are likely to watch the whole thing

So simple, and isn't that always the case...the best solutions to any problem is usually the simplest. Thanks, Paul, just pure genius.

Looks like a new, cleaner workshop without all the clutter in the back ground to detract from the lesson. I have set several saws using this method, but instead of a screw, I used a small nail punch, 3/32 size or just a little bigger if I remember correctly. Worked like a charm on the saws I accidentally took the set out of when I was sanding the rust from them during the restoration process.

Thanks for the great video! Funny I didn’t know the correct words to describe the need, I just googled “how to re-tilt handsaw teeth”, and I got here correctly, lol

Thank you for sharing. I have been struggling with a bowsaw to cut some mango logs and the binding is frustrating. Instead of buying the tool I love learning how to do it the way our forefathers did it.

I just saw this video 2 days too late after buying a setter. His method of the hammer is probably faster and you get a feeling of how much to wack it. Amazing

I'll have to try this, I've been using a 6oz. ball peen and a nail set and I keep chipping teeth like crazy on all my old Disston saws. Hopefully this works better until I get a proper saw set. Thank you for the tip Mr. Sellers.

Thanks Paul this really helps since I don't have a saw set and I'm thinking about cutting new teeth to make my dovetail saw finer

Thanks for this. Gonna try this on some sawzall blades but with a little longer screw for some (bad aim) finger clearance.
